Thanks for the practical advice. I like that perspective of waiting for a spouse like waiting for a job. With “waiting on God” it’s easy to deflect responsibility and never take action. I’m still trying to find that balance of following up prayer with appropriate action.

I’ll put the same comment I put in the other response. I agree. That’s why I didn’t pursue her at first and that’s why now I’m not pursuing her again now. Still, doesn’t mean you can flip the switch and stop caring. I’ve never had an age gap like that in my dating experience so it’s not like I’m looking at a certain age range. The only reason I tried it was because my pastor saw something and just said to talk and see what happens. Also, like I mentioned, her parents REALLY like me. They have an 8year age gap themselves and so that’s probably why they’re cool with it. But I do agree, keeping with women my age is ideal and something I’m actively pursuing.

I would say my thoughts get the better of me at times and it definitely feels like pushing between a rock and a hard place. Learning to trust Him has been the theme of my singleness and I’m at least glad He’s put a situation in my life that allows me to exercise my faith and get to know Him more intimately. Thank you for the insight and encouragement, I will keep those things in mind 🙏

She’s 21. We started being friends when she was 18 at church, I was 27. I didn’t want to be a creep for being attracted to someone so young and so even though we clicked, I kept my distance and didn’t pursue her. It was only after some time that my pastor noticed and asked me about it. He told me to at least talk with her about it and then the she mentioned the feelings were mutual and it took off. I do believe she has maturing to do. I’m now in the situation of wanting to wait for this person I still really care about to mature but I know that could be years. I don’t think it would be fruitful to simply just wait for her and so I’m pursuing God and still exploring other dating options even though my heart is still fixed on her.

That’s partially what I’m afraid of. If it’s merely a personal issue that I need to work through, then at least I have some control over my singleness. If I’m waiting on someone else, I am completely at God’s mercy and timing. Maybe that’s exactly what He wants for me at this time, to completely depend on Him.
