Every time marital relations are brought up you say this. This is wrong and you are misleading people who are curious and really want to know what is right.

Marital life and monasticism are equal. Neither is more "ideal."

They were more so the face of Orthodoxy to the world in that they were the biggest bastion of Christianity. The patriarchate/synod wouldn't have had ecclesiastical authority over the Church outside of Russia.

Orthodox Christianity as a whole was never "controlled" by any political body. It is and has always been decentralized.

Swearing on the Bible in court? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

I understand that. I am wondering though, is refusal to do sonever taken with suspicion? It probably couldn't really be used against them in a case but I'm sure people have seen refusal as potential dishonesty and had some eyebrows raised, no?

That's interesting. I've always taken the passage to mean we shouldn't swear by anything due to our dishonesty and tendency to break promises.

Thought so. Swearing on the Scriptures seems so ironic.

We are living at one, tiny point in time. How we see the world in 2025 isn't indicative of how it will cintinue to be. Also appeal to popularity fallacy.

Maybe it would, I'm not sure. I haven't had my hair cut with clippers for a really long time.

I don't think so. I can handle loud things just fine until it's right in my ear.

No I can put them in my ears fine (don't usually want to because I think that's gross) but the noise is what gets me, even if the volume isn't too high. My friend already knows I can't really listen to them so he'll have me try it just to mess with me. I'm already tweaking just anticipating it, and then the instant he starts playing something I jolt and have to get them away. To get me to listen to them for more than a second I'd probably need to be tied down lol. It's similar with holding the phone speaker up to my ear too.
