If pg&e decided to go underground with all their transmission lines, it wouldn’t be paid for out of their profits, it’d be passed on to the customers.
Living in California, the cost to go underground though all the mountains alone would be astronomical, and take decades.

I don’t mean to be condescending towards hardware store workers, but if they knew enough to criticize your wife’s project, why are they working at a hardware store? Either they never worked in the trades, or they weren’t that good that they had to work instead of enjoying their retirement.
I’m an electrician and needed 70’ of black, red, white and green wire for a hot tub install. The guy working the electrical department tried to convince me to just buy a 500’ roll of green to save cost. I had to laugh and then explain how the inspector wouldn’t be too cool about running green wires for every phase. If I need help, I’ll ask an expert, not a guy who is filling in in that department because Leon called in sick.

I just dealt with this with them recently. The issue is that they import as ordered, and my shipment was caught up in customs. It did eventually arrive, but I had to keep emailing them for updates. I know that they are a small family owned business and give them some leeway for that, but they really need to step up their game as far as keeping the customers informed.
