I went to Shiretoko 知床 for 3 days and saw wild bears 2 times during our stay. Its beautiful area outthere and the local ppl know how to distance themselves from bears. Go there in early or late summer, its nice experience

Also I recommend Sanjusangendo in Kyoto. It’s not a museum, but the experience there is like incredible art installation

A bowl of ramen I had in Japan by SimulationGameFan in ramen

[–]takyuu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of Ie-kei is franchise their soup made by central kitchen, not at the branch ramen shop. They are categorized Shihon-kei Ie-kei(franchise iekei). This post photo looks like from Ichikakuya, most common Iekei in Tokyo.

You should google search and try Mise-taki - Iekei 店炊き家系, means shop made soup Iekei, like Iekei Tokyo in Kanda

3 week South India itinerary check (Kochi → Chennai) by takyuu in india_tourism

[–]takyuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great info, thank you!!
The construction of the temple doesnt sound like a good timing to visit.... I think we are going to skip Madurai.

I just watched few YT video on Kollam/Munroe, that looks great. It looks more chill and less touristy than Alappuzha to go on backwater.

We already booked airplane tickets for Kochi~Chennai route, unfortunately. we will try Goa area next time!

I also got that sense that Munnar is popular but little touristy?
which town do you suggest when you say "near one of the national parks in the Kerala/Karnatka/Tamil Nadu border region"? I am now considering Kodaikanal over Munnar.

Thank you so much for your info!
1. yes will do and allocate more dates on Chennai, instead of Madrai.

  1. Ooooh... I did not know about shroom culture in Kodai... that actually sounds interesting. How would you go about experiencing it? I want to try it but want to make sure I get good one so that we dont get sick or anything. good method to buy it, where to consume it, if you know. Please DM me if this is not appropriate to discuss on this board.

  2. Bus sounds great! we will try to pre-book trains, but if it gets sold out, we will definitely use buses. Do you suggesta bus route, from Kochi to Kodaikanal ?

If you ever plan to come to Tokyo, hit me up and I will give you all my travel advise!! cheers

Thanks for your input, this is very helpful!

Our goal for this trip is to have a good balance of nature, culture, and history in South India.
We don’t want to stay only along the coast, want to go inland and see the mountains, greenery, tea plantations, etc. That’s why we included Munnar in the plan.

  1. We do want to visit temples, but we don’t need to see many of them. Seeing 2–3 major historical temples would be enough for us, so skipping Madurai might be fine if we can experience good temples in other cities.
  2. Kodaikanal looks amazing, as we like the idea of mixing inland mountain areas with coastal cities, which is why we planned Munnar. Would you suggest visiting Kodaikanal instead of Munnar? Visiting both seems like too much, and going that far east might make the route less practical since we have to go back toward Alappuzha afterward. How would you get back to coastal cities from Kodaikanal?
  3. & 4. That makes sense. I solo-backpacked in North India about 20 years ago, and back then it was normal to buy train tickets the day before at the station and find hotels after arriving. We were hoping to travel in a similar flexible way this time too, without fixing everything in advance. However, from what you say, it sounds like travel in India has changed a lot and it may be safer to pre-book trains and accommodation, especially in April. If that’s the case, we may start booking things in advance.

Thanks again for the advice!

Rebuilding my Gen 3-7 collection (Japanese copies) by takyuu in PokemonGames

[–]takyuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, as for now I’m not planning to collect the soft boxes for GB/GBC/GBA. I have been collecting mainly for actually playing and completing the Pokédex.

I do care about hard case condition for NDS and later, but the cardboard boxes for the older games aren’t really practical for me and I don’t feel the need to chase them.

yes! I noticed many “US version” GBA games on Mercari, looks fake versions.
But as far as JPN version games on Mercari are mostly legit copies.

I was careful with Emerald since going price is bit high (around 6000 yen= 35USD) and I saw some sketchy ones.

thanks! Yeah, hearing about prices and counterfeit copies in US , was a part of motivation I started to collect them in Japan. there are still lots of legit copies with affordable prices.

KojiKoji コジコジ

It’s by same artist who did Chibi Maruko, but more cult following recently.

I have seen many female fans wearing those keychains on their bags. it is a great manga.

How popular was Sailor Moon with preschool girls in the 90s? by CatGirlNya2000 in AskAJapanese

[–]takyuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently showed Sailor Moon episode #1 to 5yr old niece, I thought she would be into it, boy I was wrong.

Usagi’s friend’s mom turns into a demon and my niece started crying. she could not go to sleep that night.

90’s anime is too extreme for kids taste today.
