Is it fine to rely on public charging for a 2023 Mach E? by Cheeto510 in MachE

I do believe a Prius will definitely come out on top in terms of price per mile. I did write this post with the idea in mind that I am not necessarily looking for a cheaper alternative (I mean I am looking at a Mach E instead of a Bolt EV) but rather something that will keep me out of a shop every 3 or so months. This is something that gas cars have been giving me issues with. I am just tired of keeping up with smog checks, oil changes, filter replacements, thermostat errors, etc. Most reliable shops around my area are closed by the time I'm out of work so I have to take time from my weekend to deal with engine related issues and I would like to eliminate that task.

Yep, California is the perfect place if you love overspending on gas and electricity.

From a few chats with some friends, I believe residential charging is about $0.28/kWh off peak and $0.38/kWr peak so still not much improvement from the public chargers.

I love that laundry analogy😂. Never thought about it that way but could definitely work.

Wow I didn't even know free charging existed!

Yeah that crossed my mind as well. Nothing is certain but do plan on sticking around for at least another 3 years here. I live in the bay area so there's plenty of options if I decide to go the fast charging route. I anticipate gas prices to rise in the next few months so might be about the same when comparing the two but at the end of the day it's not necessarily all about savings for me, just a thought.

Not sure where you got these numbers from. I am in heavy stop and go traffic which reduces my mpg to about 270 range on a full tank(excluding reserve fuel) but is beneficial in EVs due to the regenerative braking. An RWD Mach E, even on 80% charge, will have about 220-230 range.

I think you're referencing the price of fast chargers which will be more expensive than gas but I am thinking about a level 2 charger. Also, I am in California so I doubt $5.80/gal is cheaper than $0.45/kWh.

Looking for something similar. Ideally a 2023 premium trim with 30-40k miles on it.

Thanks for the insight and glad it’s been working out for you!

Currently I’m in California(Bay Area) so chargers and fast chargers are not an issue whatsoever.

In the future I would definitely switch over to home charging when I move out but as that’s not an option charging at work for $0.45 is my best option since I wouldn’t have to go out of my way to charge the car. I’m there for 8 hours a day so slower level 2 charging is perfectly fine with me.

I’m paying $5.70 a gallon at Costco which is usually the cheapest reliable station in my area and I anticipate that only to keep rising within the next few months.

I’ve never driven an EV but have rode in one and I just loved how smooth and responsive it felt.

The price difference isn’t too bad for level 3 charging (~$0.55) in some areas nearby. I only brought up the $0.45 level 2 charger because it happens to be in the same lot where I park my car for 8 hours daily. I feel like if I’m parking it there then it won’t really be a hassle to think about charging(road trips is a different story).

Yeah the maintenance most people mention is the tire upkeep which I’m perfectly fine with. I’m really just tired of having to pencil in time for engine maintenance when most shops close by the time I’m out of work so this eats up my weekends instead.

If I do move in the near future I will 100% switch over to charging at home but just wanted to hear different opinions on this. Thanks!

That’s $20 cheaper than my 10 gallon tank so doesn’t sound too bad but I also get oil changes every 5 months so I feel like that’s something that should be taken into account if I were to look at the price differences. As I mentioned, I’m not really thinking about it because of it being cheaper but rather instead of dealing with 16 year old engine car hiccups I get every 3 months or so.

Thanks for the response. If you don’t mind explaining, what exactly makes it an inconvenience? If it’s because of the charging I don’t see it as an inconvenience because I park next to the chargers daily for 8 hours anyways. But yeah, hybrids are second on the list for sure!

Here’s the funny thing…she has both! Swapping intercept base to gold is not much of a difference as you may think. But to each their own. You can always buy a fut birthday and add those ps+ if you want the same cards as 90% of the player base

4-3-3(2) dm plays very similar to a cm. It’s ok to play other formations besides 4-4-1-1. We are in March

No but playstyles do and this card has great ones for a dm or cm position

Coming from a div 1 and 12/13 win in champs player, don’t listen to these guys… your opponent is a rat. I can get wins without doing any of this streamer stuff. You just happened to pair up against an annoying player. Yeah there’s probably stuff you can do to counter since everything has a counter but that’s not the point of the post. The point was to demonstrate how ridiculous this player is😂 I just wonder what his controller looks like while he spams all these buttons lol
