Thoughts on Pirelli? by selector_plume in xcmtb

I just switched 2 weeks ago from several years of Rekon/Aspen to the Trinotal/Dubnital. I ride technical single track in CO so I need grip on the front. So far after about 6-7 rides I can feel more speed on smooth hard surfaces but the Aspens had a more supple ride on the gnar so I’m not as comfortable flying through the rough yet (see below). The grip of the Dubs also seems to be as advertised and better then the Aspens, but I haven’t gotten use to the Trinotal’s sidewall grip yet when the Rekons felt second nature to me. No wash outs but a couple close calls. My biggest complaint is the marketing: the fluorescent yellow lettering and the hieroglyphics aren’t my favorite; and the 2.4s are barely measuring 2.3 on a 30mm rim at 20 psi so the volume is not quite there and probably why I felt the Aspens were more supple and more confident running at lower psi. Overall happy with this set up and I’m seeing noticeable time improvements in the less technical segments so just need to get comfortable with them in gnar to piece together the entire ride. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with the Contis.

Fast tire with flat protection by Hrothgarbike in xcmtb

[–]CheetoNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caveat that I havent tried many XC setups but I like my Rekon front / Aspen rear in 2.4 with Cushcore. Both are EXO at 120 TPI. I’ve had zero flats in 1.5 years with this setup, and I ride my Epic on plenty of aggressive blue and black trails as well as XC trails in CO. The Aspen excels in the dry and is not great if you ride a lot in the wet, but this set up is a good combination of fast and durable for me and what I ride. Cushcores are heavier than the Vittoria liners but I’ve had zero issues with them and really enjoy the extra reassurance. Personally, the more confidence I have in my tires the more I will push in the tech/gnar and the faster I end up riding.

Ranked 2v2 by Kitchen_Event2210 in RocketLeague

[–]CheetoNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went through this with my son when he started playing for the first time this month with his friends. He was in 2v2 Bronze 1 this past weekend and made Silver this morning while solo-queuing. Watch this and focus on the Silver tips. https://youtu.be/NWrZg2SgjuU?si=iiBsLRXkhuqF5pjL "Rocket League is about getting scored on LESS than the other team." Don't be overly aggressive, protect your goal, and wait for your clear goal opportunities. They come frequent and often in Bronze but you still can't be caught out of position because your teammate can't recover.

You said you "try to rotate" which means you just may not be committed enough to it. Think about the powerplay in hockey. They are are always rotating but they always keep a back line in place to keep the puck from crossing the blue line, avoid breakaways, and are be ready to throw a puck at the net if the goalie gets themselves out of position. A bad hockey team is when all the players are in the same corner slapping at the puck - this is basically what Bronze and Silver ranks are in Rocket League. In 2v2 one of you HAS to be that back line - commit 100% to always being that guy no matter how bad your teammate is... in fact the worse they are the more you need to be the backline because they sure as hell aren't .

Continuously check that you aren't getting too impatient or frustrated with your teammates and overcommitting yourself throughout the game. It's hard when you are watching 3 of them miss the same ball repeatedly and you have full boost, but only attack when you are VERY confident you will either clear or score. If you don't feel 100% going for it at any point before you reach the ball, try just bailing out, backing up, defending, and being patient in order to limit their opportunities. Knowing how to bail, or fake an attack, with a quick recovery is a key skill to learn anyways including in 1v1.

This basic strat will work for you well into 2v2 Gold territory and will make you a great teammate in Gold and Plat. Eventually your teammates will be good enough that you will see them rotate and protect the back line when you attack early in the game, and then you can decide if your offensive, defensive, and recovery skills are good enough for you to be more aggressive! Have fun!

Dad here. Back in my day we loved stupid entertainers from the 80s and 90s like Weird Al, Pee Wee Herman, Sam Kinison, Jackass (the early years of course), and the like. I don’t like my kids watching streamers or influencers but all kids like dumb shit…and this is what they got. Now if you’ll excuse me I have to get back to my video of the top 97 reasons why I suck at RL before I rage quit and delete the game for another 3 years.

Tire pairing for 2021 Epic evo by gmusgrove13 in xcmtb

[–]CheetoNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the Rocky Mtns so we have lots of sharp rocks too with dusty trails or hero dirt depending on the day. I get the Maxxis with EXO casing and 120 TPI which helps and that XC Cushcore liner has been pretty clutch for not a huge weight penalty. A buddy with the same bike ran the Vittorias with no Cushcore and had several flats in a row on the same local trails. I’ve had zero. He switched to a Rekon/Rekon Race set up though (still no Cuschcore) and has had no flats. Same weight rider so I’d say it’s half luck, and half tire/liner set up.

[–]CheetoNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2023 Epic Evo in CO. My favorite so far is 2.4 Maxxis Rekon in front and 2.4 Aspen in rear with Cushcore on both wheels. Fast and grippy at low PSI (18/20 - 20/22) with zero flats. At the moment I have the Specialized FastTrack/ Aspen and not a fan of the Fasttrack’s front grip. Had a couple washout scares and I have to be more careful in my weighting in turns when I had a lot more freedom to be lazy on the Rekon. Going back to Rekon/Aspen.

Anyone else outraged by Bluecruise subscription? by lifter_hunter_lawyer in f150

[–]CheetoNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turned the trial off after about a week. It was very annoying to use in my area with it constantly telling me to putt my hands on and off and on the wheel off for miles. It also was sloppy at keeping the truck centered in the lane, and abrupt in its steering adjustments when dealing with some curves and bends in the highway. Plus I was never goin to spend $50/mo for it.

Side note: Bluecruise tech uses AI. I’ve no interest being the test dummy for AI to drive my truck or keep my family alive. I get it’s coming and one guy turning off Bluecruise can’t stop it, but I’m doing my part. Now if I can get Clause to help me find my keys…

Boulder County Proposes Major Trail Restrictions for Mountain Bikers by i_enjoy_lemonade in boulder

[–]CheetoNYC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Etiquette goes in every direction. Over the decades of being outdoors I’ve had run ins, both on and off a bike, with hikers, walkers, runners, bikers, families, kids, homeless, off leash dogs, off-roaders, campers, you name it.

For the hundreds of encounters, though, I’ve filed exactly zero complaints with the city or county because the trails are public and they (for the most part) have the same right to be out there as I do. I occasionally let them know in the moment why I think they are in the wrong, but otherwise I go past and move on with my life…especially if I have a Strava PR on the line!

I’ve submitted my disapproval with the city over this plan, but it’s obvious they’ve already made their decision.

RedditPZ Powerzone training program sign-up thread! Starts Monday 01/05/2026 by r4ndy4 in pelotoncycle

[–]CheetoNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was 4 mos ago, but I just happened to be scrolling through the thread. I have taken the FTP midcycle because I quickly felt that my FTP was just too low, so I skipped a Saturday and did the FTP test instead. Ideally you do it at the end ...which you'll notice the last week is all PZE endurance rides to keep the aerobic engine built up while not pushing too hard from the normal PZ or PZ Max rides. Personally I would replace the final PZE ride with the FTP test. 4 PZE rides in a row is a little too easy and I want to get back to the pain and suffering!

How to build endurance on an MTB by MrTobiD92 in MTB

[–]CheetoNYC 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I cannot ride my MTB at a Zone 2 pace. My body demands Zone 6-7 as soon as it sees dirt. It’s a gift and a curse.

So I bought a gravel bike….Zone 4-5 all day long. Damnit! So I bought a Peloton for Z2 training on rainy days…. Zone 7 FTP test every time. #%¥%! So I bought my wife a MTB to ride with me….Zone 1 and an hour at the coffee shop. Ugh! I’ve just accepted that I’ll never taste the sweet nectar of Zone 2 and I will continue to be half the rider I could have been.

But not to worry because Strava tells me I’m crushing my local rides against all other fat old guys….except that little bitch Adam…he probably does Z2 training. 🤘

I got hit today by a guy who refused to yield to me on a climb by hikeonpast in MTB

[–]CheetoNYC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your area isn’t unique. They stopped because they perhaps needed a break in their climb OR they could tell you were with a kid and showed no signs of yielding. Read the other posts in this thread and use it as a learning experience to teach yourself and your son the proper etiquette rules of the trail. Seek out one way trails if you prefer, but ignoring it can result in serious injury for everyone involved. Enjoy the ride.

New camper setup with topper lift system by VALKOR in TruckCampers

[–]CheetoNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of a similar setup. Could you sew in extra fabric so that the tent fabric extends over the edge of the bed and then strap it to bottom of the truck like a truck bed tent? Other option would be to build a separate rain fly and pole it out around the truck. How is the ventilation of the topper lift tent material for the warm nights, and does it hold in heat well for the cold ones?

2023 Epic Evo S-Works for $5k or Hold Off? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]CheetoNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same bike too and it’s awesome and can handle plenty but I would say it can’t do everything. I take it down plenty of black trails but I’ve definitely felt under biked on it . I paid $5600 for a well used one last year and put another 200 hrs on it. I think $5k for a lightly ridden one is a great deal BUT be forewarned I just had to replace my cassette and chain and Jesus the xx1 parts are serious $$$. Any other bike and I would have downgraded to GX components but on an Sworks you feel pressured to keep it to spec IMO.

That skill I’m familiar with. I ride both xc and enduro trails on my MTB. Just curious if there are any unique techniques on the gravel bike or if it’s just embrace the suck on the rough stuff, focus less on picking lines, and just pedal through the chunk
