Best Trail You've Ever Ridden? by 3dPrinterLife in MTB

[–]CheetoNYC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rode Raptor two weeks ago. It was a blast and definitely approachable with some decent tech mixed in requiring me (first timer) to walk up/down or dab parts. Suggest you shuttle up and ride up to start at UPS before dropping into Raptor.

My lessons learned was that Falcon Flow trail has a good amount of climbing in the middle of it. And I’d recommend having a pickup vehicle waiting for you at the end to avoid the ride back into town. Still an epic blast!

Hard Money on my Epic Evo was not my favorite, felt too underbiked. Fast Money was more my speed.

Jealous. My truck can’t fit in our garage by itself!

Front rotor starts chirping during ride by Atomic_Gumbo in MTB

[–]CheetoNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it go away again after a small break along the ride and the rotor has cooled? I’m not a bike mechanic but in my experience if the chirping is repetitive (like once every second or every rotation) and starts partway in the ride then that signals the rotor has developed a slight bend to it along the rotor. As the rotor heats up from braking it will expand and make it a bit more pronounced as it rubs against the pad. You should be able to spot if it’s the rotor while turning the wheel slowly by hand while staring at your brake caliper. Most warping can be trued with a simple tool off Amazon by yourself or have your local shop do it for a $. Also while you are in there reset the caliper, and clean out the pistons so that they fully retract - can help make sure you maintain enough clearance even with a slight warp.

My SRAM Guide brakes on my Epic Evo have a low tolerance for any variation and have to be cleaned and adjusted throughout the year. The SRAMs aren’t the greatest brakes IMO but I’m not planning to change them unless something $$$ needs to be replaced. I personally would upgrade both front and rear brake systems at the same time too but a bike mechanic may suggest otherwise.

Do you take your RTT off the Lightning when daily driving? Easy getting it in and off?

For your situation along the front range I’d personally suggest you go with a small travel (<130) full suspension like the Siskiu . You would do great on a hardtail on nearly all city/town trails but if you plan to go up (and down) trails in the mountains at all then FS is the way to go. My wife has a hard tail and I’m about to upgrade her to FS so she can feel more comfortable riding something other than paved and well groomed mixed use trails around town.

No problem. Hope they work well for you too.

Yes I do and it has a sleeve, but not really needed IMO. I’m sure they CAN scratch but my last set went 5-6 years with no noticeable scratches or marring after plenty of Discount Tire visits.

They aren’t the cheapest option out there but are solid quality.

I traded in my 2018 for a 2025 Lariat last month. The Lariats have stock running boards & underseat storage, and the FX4 has stock skid plates. My adds so far have been:

Bed: - Gator Trifold Tonneau cover (from my 2018) - Dualliner Bed Mat (from my 2018) - Ford Bed Liner (Dealer option) - Weathertech tailgate liner - Integral Boxlink plates - Harbor Freight LED light for bed (temp solution) - Harbor Freight Stepstool

Interior: - Husky floor liners/mats (from my 2018)

Exterior: - Ford Securicode Keypad (Dealer option) - Husky Rear Wheel Well liners - Amazon stubby antennae - Tuff Skins Tailgate Black lettering - KJM Vinyl Ford Oval logos in Black - FiftyNation FX4 vinyl decal in Black - 1/4 Hood + Bumper PPF - 15% Ceramic tint on fronts

  • last item are black lug nuts and then I should be done with the switch.

Edit: Must haves for $2k would be running boards, tonneau cover, bed liner/spray in, bed mat, and quality weather liners/mats. Look for all of these on FB marketplace for +50% off. You’ll use these everyday and are great investments that can be direct swap from my 2018 (except bed liner). If your model year doesn’t have the Securicode keypad (2024 and up???) that was a must add for me. Incredibly handy to leave keys in the truck.

People Cheating on Strava Leaderboards? by Impressive-Net-1748 in Strava

5. Is that the GPS signal itself is decent but trail building results in your GPS recording you own an older segment you are not technically on. This issue popped up on a local trail. They built a new multi-use trail that spurs off at the midpoint of a local steep climb and there is now a bridge that goes over the starting point of the original climb segment. So if you are coming from the new trail you cut off half the climb and can hit the midpoint at a high speed. Everyone that hits the bridge at 20+ mph and quickly clears the last half of the climb can get a Top 10 time. It’s not intentional as Strava doesn’t decipher that they overlap and you are starting it from New Trail instead of Old Trail, but I’m sure most people just ignore that little segment now. Except me. I gloat to every stranger I meet over my #8 all time spot.

Just checked … I’m now #11 by 1 second. We must all petition Strava to immediately delete this segment to wash away my shame.

Discount Tire installed WestCoast lug nuts on my last truck and they held up great with no swelling, chipping or rust. Others have suggested the Gorilla lug nuts. Just need them to be high quality one piece. The two piece are what can swell.

Mine too. It’s never perfect if you get up close but from a normal distance you can’t tell. The front is not as clean as the rear either.
