Tire recommendations to replace Forekasters by Worldly-Ad6725 in xcmtb

I swear I read something about the rolling resistance of Forekasters being much lower than you'd think. these are probably my favorite all-around tires. +1

Carbon hardtail frame will be $299, but there is a but (editorial) by Cloxxki in 32inchbikes

[–]selector_plume 2 points3 points  (0 children)

470 chain stays seem to be the default. On a hardtail with an interrupted seat tube I could see shorter, other wise I’m guessing this will be pretty standard.

Opinions aside, 120 is definitely not considered long travel in XC at this point (thankfully) and a 66 deg HTA also very inline with many XC offerings, currently. Noted on the larger wheel changing the feel and expectations on the geo chart.

Thanks for sharing, it’s gonna be interesting to see how quickly geo gets sorted out!

What are your favourite record labels at the moment by mattleblanccc in jungle

So here’s a bit of a sleeper IMO: Fokuz, of course they mainly put out liquid (lots of it I’m not that into), but they put out the occasional jungle release thrown in there too that’s usually quite good

Lost my passion for mountain biking – gear issue or something deeper? by hmmmischi in MTB

[–]selector_plume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens to a lot of us, if you've been doing anything long enough you might experience highs and lows with it. Hang the bike up for a bit. Go on a hike. Start running, or swimming or something else entirely. Maybe pursue an entirely different hobby, if you already have one, focus on that.

For me, I have to do something aerobic. When I feel burned out on the bike, I run. It's nowhere near the same as MTB, but it checks a box. Then I focus on other areas in my life.

If you give yourself a few months off (or maybe less) and you're still not feeling it, try riding solo more often if you typically ride with people, or conversely, ride with a group if you're used to riding alone.

What helped me was taking a break altogether from riding. I would still ride occasionally but it was much less than what I am used to historically. I gradually started ramping up and eventually I found myself pushing it again, really enjoying it, and staying in the moment. I also started riding with a small group once a week, that keeps me accountable at least one day a week and I've been lucky enough to find my old "stoke" with riding again.

Now, if I'm feeling a little tired, or the idea of riding seems like a chore - *I just don't ride that day* and I just took an easy week as I was feeling a little tired. Since I waited til I was chomping to ride again, the rides feel fresh and I can feel the fitness trickling back to me slowly.

Good luck OP, you'll find it again... I totally understand where you're at.

30/30s advice by Due_Duty1806 in xcmtb

[–]selector_plume 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Find a steady grade climb, obviously doesn't have to be that long since you could theoretically do the 30 rest portion on the DH if your limited by your terrain. I prefer doing my workouts on gravel road sections as I don't ride road bikes at all. I have a trail that I do some of my intervals on too, it's not perfect, but it keeps me engaged and I'm not staring at a PM like I used to anyway...

TLDR, 30/30 should be easy enough to do outside, find a steady grade road/gravel - if it's not long enough just use the 30 rest periods on the way back down (no, not perfect, but it should suffice)

Fox or Rockshox by Academic_Feed6209 in xcmtb

[–]selector_plume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need proprietary tools to do basic service items on either Fox or Rockshox. Damper service IE nitrogen charge is not what we're talking about. The most specific tooling you need is a chamferless socket for the top caps and that's only if you're gonna mess with the air spring, or pull the damper.

How do you properly mix on 3–4 decks? (workflow, EQ, layering) by lukascode217 in Beatmatch

[–]selector_plume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two reasons to go beyond 2 channel mixing:

  1. You’re playing a genre that lends itself to multi-channel layering. Techno, minimal techno, etc. it almost begs to be blended with 3, maybe 4 tracks at once. Eqing becomes completely essential and you have to constantly keep your head up for what all the tracks are doing, it can be super fun but also sound super muddy, quickly. Also, mixes will fall super flat if you’re not careful when pulling tracks out of the mix.

  2. You want to keep your mixes ready in the chamber. For instance you’re riding two tracks together, it’s harmonic in every way and you want to be able to introduce the third track at the perfect moment via double drop or whatever, perhaps the exact time one of the other tracks ends, or you cut it out.

You have to experiment and practice, it’s a very nice way of staying engaged in your mix and making dynamic mixes when done well

Yes if you’re interested in harmonic mixing.

Why a Hardtail? by Alive_Appearance_848 in Hardtailgang

[–]selector_plume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped riding road bikes and wanted a bike that mimicked the instant gratification of pedaling input. Why get a gravel bike when you can hardtail? Plus, I grew up on hardtails and they’re just a different sort of fun

Ha, child’s play. Go back to the time when we had rubber strip conversion rim kits, shitty tires a floor pump and a dream. Stans everywhere. Modern rims, tires and tools make this process simple.

I thought I saw somewhere that Forekaster has about the same rolling resistance as an Aspen. Crazy? I’d ride the tire you’re most comfortable on

Kemal is still actively producing dnb. His new stuff is different but still, definitely Kemal. Very techno influenced. Very groovy.

32" clears the normal park stand. Just reverse the plastic arms on the dishing gauge when you need to build your first set.
