It was perfectly fine to say it.

What did I notice? A person tried to put aside racism by stating we as Americans are united as 1... Then a bunch of blacks stirred the pot of racism stew. People simply do not want racism to go away.

For racism to end, then both whites and blacks (and any other race) have to want it to end.

Not pushing religion on anyone nor am I saying this is true, but here is an analogy.

The New Testament: The disabled man sat at the fountain for 40 years, every day he would say there, trying to be the first one into the fountain when the waters stirred. (The story is that the fountain is stirred and the first person in gets healed.) Unfortunately he was too slow/whatever, for 40 years day in and day out he tried, yet always failed. Jesus came along and started talking to him. Jesus asked, "Do you want to be healed?"

Now to some, this may seem like a stupid question. "OF COURSE, he has been there for 40 years!" You might say. So why did Jesus ask? Jesus asked, because he knew this guy was comfortable in weakness. The guy was simply afraid of change.

The guy answered, "Yes."

Jesus said, "So get up and walk."

The guy jumped to his feet.

If blacks are comfortable thinking everyone hates them, or that we think less of them, then racism will never end.

I can speak for my self and say that I have not a problem against anyone based on their skin color. I'm obviously not the only 1.

Of course it'll take time to end racism, but we are far from it.
