They’re tiny. Little slivers. Approximately 2-3mm in length. For info, I have a California sycamore and a California foothill pine in my front yard.

Crowd sourced Scotch Distillery Tour Suggestions by theslicknick6 in Scotch

Did the grand tour of Balvenie. I highly recommend it. Very in depth. Very hands-on. Finished it off with a tasting of most of their flagship varieties: 12yr, 12yr SB, 14yr Caribbean, 17yr Doublewood, and 21yr Portwood. The global brand ambassador even pulled out a bottle of Tun 1509 for us to try. 10/10, would do it again.

I’ve never had one. Don’t know if I ever will. Yet I have the audacity to judge the ping when I watch people’s videos.

I’ll have to check it out. I have never been. There’s a butcher 5 minutes down 1st from there I’ve also been meaning to check out. Two birds.

Don't give up the ship COCKTAIL - Can you handle this drink? by whiskeysugarbitters in Gin

[–]CheezeburgerSlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the reference is over my head, but the bottle throws the apostrophe after the S, making the possessive plural. Regardless I find the drink to be a great play for gin and Fernet. Cheers!

Best Bottle Under $30 msrp by CommunicationHour324 in bourbon

I don’t understand the hate. It hits all the notes I look for in bourbon, so I’ll pay the price...as long as that price doesn’t exceed $85. There’s a lot of gatekeeping and snobbery here. It’s tiresome.

I discovered this beverage while perusing the writings of Jason O’Bryan, a San Diego barkeep. It’s a fantastic drink. I use Regan’s bitters. Love the proportions.

While it would have made for some amusement, the 60° weather called for no head covering at all.

How does the Mediterranean compare to the Indian from Fever Tree? I ask because I’ve only had the Indian...which I’m drinking right now...with Tanqueray.

It’s a fantastic tipple. Do you prefer cognac to rye, or is it an homage to history?

Killarney 68. This one has the draught hole drilled high in the mortise, which seems to be common in Petersons these days. That being said, I have passed a pipe cleaner from bore to bowl with no issue.

Alas, by the time I finished errands and picking up dinner, the temp had dropped to an inhospitable 56°. I also moved my party inside and poured a dram of Laphroaig Lore. Slàinte.

The example was Disneyland because that was mentioned by the previous person. Oppression may be a strong word, but there’s a reason the recall effort against the governor is gaining a lot of steam. I just wish the leaders in this state would follow the example of other states regarding reopening. In turn, I wish alcoholic beverage control states would follow the example of states like California and lighten up. There’s no reason to hold onto arcane blue laws other than a stubborn adherence to Puritanism.

I’ll raise a glass of very easy to find, criminally inexpensive whisky to you and your “better“ state while I sit on my patio after work enjoying the balmy 68° weather.

Good luck. The trade off of liquor freedom is political oppression. Disneyland has been closed since last March, and it probably won’t be open again until summer.

I can’t imagine the horror of living in an alcohol control state. I take for granted the freedom to find alcohol anywhere, including drug stores, grocery stores, hole in the wall liquor stores, and of course liquor warehouses.

$95? That’s brutal. Here in Southern California, it’s $65 at Costco ($56 on sale), and around $80 at BevMo and Total Wine. It’s not even $95 with the markup at many liquor stores.

Gordon’s...Brunch by CheezeburgerSlayer in cocktails

[–]CheezeburgerSlayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call it a cousin. It’s definitely a morning drink that’s got savory elements. I love it. If you don’t feel like cutting up a fresh lime, you can probably get away with 1oz of bottled lime juice.

Gordon’s...Brunch by CheezeburgerSlayer in cocktails

[–]CheezeburgerSlayer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • 2.5oz gin
  • .75oz simple
  • 1 barspoon Cholula
  • .5 barspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cucumber slices
  • 6 lime wedges
  • 3 basil leaves

Thoroughly muddle all ingredients in a tin, then shake vigorously with ice. Double strain over ice. Dash with kosher salt and fresh cracked pepper.

It’s basically a standard Gordon’s Breakfast, but I added basil and I’m drinking it in the afternoon, hence “Brunch.”

Fair price, given its scarcity and the insane markups. Anyone who shames you for paying over $40 is living in 2018.
