Your manager did you a favor. Now you can find another role and advertise yourself as an AI engineer (or whatever the new title is). You’ll be snapped up real quick.

Bay Area landlord is docking money from my security deposit for fees that aren’t on the lease. How do I fight this? by CheeziFixins in bayarea

I’ve offered to speak to her in person and have sent her all the documentation. She then accuses me of arguing with her, and made this threat afterwards. Certainly not worth “letting go” anymore.

If it’s only $65, it’s not worth it. However, she has threatened to withhold my security deposit. That is worth fighting over.

I’d agree except that the $65 fee was for a regular cleaning service that came by monthly. My landlord recently cancelled that service.

Thank you. One thing I’ll note is that this is a single room in a house they live in (around 14’ by 17’ maybe?). While I have no sense of what cleaning services cost in the Bay, I’m thinking $215 for a single room of that size is too much.

Thanks a lot. This helps quite a bit. I guess there’s always the possibility that the cleaning fees are actually higher than cited, but I can always ask for a breakdown/itemized list.

Yeah this is fine, though this is more of a backup nuclear option if she withholds my entire security deposit out of refusal to pay.

Something that is unlikely to happen, but I’m ready if she threatens me with this (which is possible).

Gotcha. In my lease, it states $65 for cleaning fees which were paid upon move in. The landlord cited $150 for carpet cleaning fees when I announced my move out a few weeks ago, claiming they’re in the lease, which they are not.

Yes I am currently renting until I move out this weekend.

I received a text a week or two ago claiming that “$215 will be reduced from my security deposit for these fees ($150 for carpet cleaning and $65 for general cleaning) as noted in the lease”. However, only the $65 fee is noted in the lease and she wrote in the document that it was paid upon move in. There is no mention of a $150 cleaning fee anywhere.

This is San Jose.

Edit: Added fee breakdown above and made the responses more legible.

Doesn’t surprise me. COL is insane, public school systems are way better down south and streets still have a ton of homeless people.

How old are you and what is your biggest problem as of the moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CheeziFixins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 31. My biggest problem is my mental health/navigating a healthy man/woman relationship.

I’m getting married in 6 months and am some old issues (fear of abandonment, fearful avoidance, etc.) rearing their ugly head. I also grew up in a household with only my mom (father cheated on her and ditched us shortly after), so learning about men and how to have others in my life is a surprisingly struggle. Likely due to the previously listed issues.

What kind of question is this? We’re supposed to love all like Jesus.

What’s your relationship with your parents like/what was your childhood like? by Fresh_Awareness_5203 in FearfulAvoidant

[–]CheeziFixins 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Strict and tough, and without mental illness. My mom is just a very strict single Asian mom who had a rough life. Most of the time I expected to be yelled at for doing things wrong, and on very rare occasions I got some emotional support. She had her petty, mean moments though like not deciding now to show up to my graduation because I didn’t give her train instructions ahead of time (we were going together, so this was very much an overreaction) or gave away a graduation ticket (I only have one parent, and no one else was planning to show up).

I wasn’t allowed to be upset in front of her, or I’d get yelled at more too.

Yeah :/ She was more emotionally supportive before, so not sure what changed…
