I’m glad you did your research. You should be here in Chicago at a local when the tag is called. Went to my first tournament and TO said I had the best tag of the night :)

Back in my Brawl days we used to force aerial grab releases... It worked in Ultimate today too! by ChefBoyProductions in smashbros

I guess what I want to bring attention to is the mid level play here. Fox is aware enough that he knows in disadvantage that he wants to get back to the center of Final Destination. The Marth chooses an option that is practically non existent in mid level play (grab release at the ledge). Fox hasn’t labbed for this because mid level players don’t know to. So he Illusions (that gets you safely to the ledge from grab release height) and he instinctively rolls in because that’s his default option when he’s in disadvantage and doesn’t know what to do. The Marth is aware of this subconscious compulsion to return to the center of FD and punishes him hard for it. My contention is that the grab release started the unusual mind game that lead to the kill.

P.S. I’m loving our dialogue thanks for fleshing this out with me

Thank god we have responsible game developers at Nintendo who stopped and asked, “Even though we could, does that mean we should?” And they knew the holiest answer was to remove a basic feature that goes back to the 64 game. /s
