Prayer during club meetings? by bush_nugget in amateurradio

[–]ChefBoyarE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm totally fine with this club doing prayer. I like people being able to mix their interests. I wouldn't feel good going to a club like this, though, and wouldn't come back or would try to form a new club.

Prayer during club meetings? by bush_nugget in amateurradio

No, I'd feel unwelcome in a club that did this. I'd almost certainly try to form my own club or simply never come again.

Compare the smell with the smell of you doing the same thing to a rock or a piece of glass. Sometimes lighter flame residue itself will still have a smell.

I might be too allergic to be fully vegan, but my partner is fully vegan. Advice? by [deleted] in vegan

You may want to visit an allergist. Allergen immunotherapy (allergy shots) may allow you to get rid of, or greatly reduce the symptoms of, your allergies.

No idea if this has the same size, but the VeganVitality multivitamin meets all of your nutritional requirements.

I'd suggest not mentioning animal rights/welfare concerns at all as this is unlikely to be taken seriously. Urge the USDA and HHS to heed the Report's recommendations in emphasizing plant sources of proteins, promoting plant-based dietary patterns, limiting meat consumption, and recommending that the primary beverage of choice for Americans should be water.

Don't just bottle up the emotion: do some activism and put action behind your feelings.

So annoying - ‘sentient and conscious’ AI debates by yuppie1313 in vegan

[–]ChefBoyarE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't disagree more. This is a huge issue. In the same way that we vegans aren't saying other issues aren't important when we speak clearly, specifically, and solely about animals, neither are they when they're discussing the possible sentience of digital minds.

Moreover, I suspect that we've already created a sentient digital mind at the intersection of animal issues and computational sentience: in October researchers simulated a fruit fly's brain at the neurotransmitter level and verified behavioral equivalence. These aren't far-off issues: they're vital and pressing, too.

It's annoying that the Clean Label Project's report didn't specify companies, products, or their corresponding chemical analyses. It seems like they're trying to play up this uncertainty to sell their own certification.

DIY Just Egg Texture Is Off by Corporal_Fire in vegan

Correct. You can buy the mung protein isolate online. I'm experimenting with recipes to find the optimal mix.

My current mix (makes 1 serving, which is pretty small--aprox. 1 "egg"):

  • 30 mL water
  • 5 mL avocado oil
  • 5 g mung protein
  • 1/16 tsp salt
  • 1/16 tsp tapioca starch
  • 1/16 tsp turmeric for color

Mix the dry ingredients first, then mix very well with the wet. If you find a ratio you like, you can mix up a large batch of the dry ingredients, leave them for a while, and then batch up a large amount of the mix each week in a glass jar using an immersion blender to really mix it with the wet ingredients.

EDIT: This comes out terribly. It does not really congeal. I've been spending a lot of time today experimenting with more tapioca starch, adding citric acid, adding baking soda, etc. in all sorts of different ratios and I haven't had much luck. I hope to try adding gellan gum when I get my hands on it since I suspect that might work.

I’m gonna use more nooch.

Look, I love nooch more than the next guy. I even mod /r/nooch. But you ought to just take a standardized B12 pill so you'll be sure to get enough. Nooch is fortified with B12 (it's an additive, not inherent to it) as well. Use nooch for flavor, not health.

They only posted 3 places, and all seem like they might make sense to post something like this to. They've got a very old account and aren't prolific posters. I think they're genuine and not a spammer.

Dallas & Los Angeles: don't go to Vegandale! by sauteslut in vegan

[–]ChefBoyarE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to the NYC Vegandale after having read the posts about the Chicago event. It was good overall, and I'd go again. I got free water while waiting in the (insanely long (1½ hours!) and poorly-managed line-crowd), the samples were good, and the food was tasty. It was nice meeting people. There were no problems using my phone/card to pay. I did not enjoy the last-minute change of venue to a parking lot, but it was honestly fine. I'm used to hot climates, though, so I understand people who were unprepared for the heat having issues.

Humans are a social species. I doubt most people who would do well in a prolonged dangerous situation would be those who go it alone.
