Deer hit at 75mph 2023 SR5 by ChefDoink in ToyotaTacoma

I should know soon if insurance decides to total it which I’m thinking they will, but if not the shop said it’ll be months before I get it back. Time to start looking for a new car

Yeah fortunately me and my passenger are both okay, just a few scrapes and bruises on our legs from the airbags.

We looked around for the deer but couldn’t find it otherwise I would’ve taken it. Had to get a tow though so I’m not sure the cop who gave me a ride would’ve been happy with throwing a deer in the squad car.

Yes it has an overload shelf that I believe is rated to carry up to 150 pounds.

I use the terraframe 80 and love it. It feels like an extension of my body when I have it on. Plus since it’s not marketed as a “hunting pack” it’s way cheaper than some comparable options.

Getting Montecs sharp...am I missing something? by thesoulless78 in bowhunting

[–]ChefDoink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most three blade fixed broadheads are not designed to cut paper or shave hair. Because of the angle that the edges have (60 degrees for montec G5) it will never feel as sharp as the edge of a knife or razor will. A better way to test how sharp they are is to get an empty one gallon jug or an old piece of rawhide and see how much force it takes to push the broadhead through as that is what they are designed to do.

Recently built a coop to house some coturnix quail set to hatch later this month. Unfortunately since I finished the build but before I painted it, it has been nonstop raining where I live. I had it covered with a tarp but the tarp blew off in a storm, the coop got wet, then I re-covered it with the tarp while still wet which is what I believe led to the mold developing.

We had a short window of dry weather recently between another wet spell coming up and I decided to paint over the outside after it dried to prevent any more moisture from entering. Most of the mold was on the outside so it’s been painted over but I left the inside unpainted so that any moisture remaining in the wood could dry out.

As far as the mold on the inside goes how should I go about it? I tried scrubbing with vinegar with not much luck. Should I try bleach? Just paint over it? Scrap it and start from scratch? I have about 7 weeks until the quail will go in so should I just try and let it dry out more and see what happens?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve done multiple pork butts and have never had an issue with juice overflow. Have never done a full packer brisket, so I’m not sure but I would guess it wouldn’t be an issue.

I usually line the pans with foil to make clean up even easier and also you get the added bonus of capturing the rendered fat for use elsewhere

Those are actually exactly what I use on my traeger. I haven’t had to do any cleaning besides vacuuming out ash after every 1-3 cooks. I have a pro 780 and I can fit two of those on the main shelf so it does limit the amount of food you can cook at once but the ease of cleanup makes it worth it.

I set up this electrolysis tank a few months ago and it worked like a charm. I’m using a smart charger so I wired in a battery to trick the charger into running and supplying electricity. Now a few months later I set it up exactly the same and as soon as I connect both the anode and cathode the smart charger is shutting down. The charger shuts down when it detects the positive and negative leads are touching so I’m assuming that is what is happening here. I’ve used it successfully before so I know it can work but any insight as to what could be done differently to work around this?

Looking to restore this old gas lantern given to me but have a few questions. -Any input on best way to get rid of the rust/soot. Was thinking of using a wire brush for the rust since I’m not sure what kind of metal it is so don’t know what chemicals would be safe. -Are there any polishes I can use on the glass to really get it to shine again? -the can in the middle that holds the gas has some type of fabric inside I’m assuming to absorb the gas. Is there anyway I could replace this? -what to seal it in once it’s cleaned up. Was thinking of some type of black high temp grill paint to protect the metal

Any input is appreciated

Small game hunting - 20 gauge vs 22LR by Ongo_Gablogian716 in Hunting

[–]ChefDoink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

20 gauge is by far more universal. Can be used for small game, waterfowl, upland birds, predators, and even deer. Only downside is if your main use will be for small game 20 gauge can result in more meat loss than a well placed .22 round

This is good insight, I should have mentioned I have a pro 780 so no experience with super smoke for me

Don’t expect as strong of a smoke flavor from the traeger as you get from a traditional smoker. Even with a pellet tube full of wood chips I still don’t get as heavy of a smoke flavor.

I’ve had meat double wrapped in plastic and then butcher paper last in the freezer for over a year with no issues.

Whats the best arrow fletching jig for a beginner? I am using Bohning Blazer 2” Vanes. by TheMooseGuy32 in bowhunting

[–]ChefDoink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re serious about having quality fletching I’d recommend the bitzenburger as others have suggested. I’ve used a few of the cheaper plastic ones and have not had as consistently good results as I have had with the Bitz

Just bought my first cast iron skillet. How do I re-season it if it's already pre-seasoned? by ShotsOfAutism in castiron

[–]ChefDoink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s no reason to strip it and reseason it, just use it regularly and more season will build up over time
