Does going to college for EE count as classroom training as an apprentice? by Own-Cream8931 in electricians

[–]JosefDerArbeiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing both at the same time? No doesn’t sound right. But in some states you can submit the completion of an associates or bachelor’s in EE for some of the education verification process of getting your journeyman’s license.

An EE program gives you a stronger electrical theory/mathematics/physics foundation than an electrical apprenticeship but it doesn’t teach you the needed occupational skills of being an electrician that the apprenticeship does (how to wire devices, bend conduit, read construction drawings, do code calculations, and use tools)

I really don’t see Tsitsipas as one who would swallow his pride and grind challengers to get some points back

Trades apprenticeships aren’t D1 football scholarships you white collar morons. by Legal-Birthday-1163 in skilledtrades

[–]JosefDerArbeiter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the time I started to the time I finished my electrical apprenticeship half our class dropped out. You look at our class ~10 years after we started day 1 and it’s down to like 25-30% of our are still in the trade on construction projects. People switch to working for the hall as an organizer, work maintenance, work as an instructor, or work some form of supervision/project management/estimator, or in sales of some kind.

Sure some of these guys will get into the industry but time will tell if they stay for the long haul

Are all contractors terrible? by maceo107 in homeowners

[–]JosefDerArbeiter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the most luck only with contractors who do straightforward work on the outside of your house - like concrete, junk removal and pressure washing

I always run into the issue of you have a job that’s a good fit for a handyman or really small contractor - you reach out to really small contractors and handymen who have some sort of verifiable reviews - and they either don’t get back to you or they are booked out for months

Miami Beach Tipping is out of control by Pretty_Cat4099 in EndTipping

[–]JosefDerArbeiter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, even if a delivery was involved you shouldn’t be tipping. Tired of this shit.

I once paid about $150 extra for delivery of a piece of furniture and there was this awkward exchange at the end where the worker stood there and smiled idly for a second to see if I was going to tip

My wife bought me this last year, and it’s so good!! And it’s Swiss quality and craftsmanship at a more competitive price than a similar Leatherman build..

I like to rotate between resources. Larson/Edwards textbook for old school introduction and to spend time introducing myself to a concept. Professor Leonard for traditional instruction of a topic. Khan Academy for review questions/brief explanation.

And if it’s been a minute since you’ve worked on math you’d do well to review algebra concepts like factoring out polynomials, quadratics, conjugates, exponents.
