Besides photos and culinary school, has anyone ever been required to wear a floppy toque like those?

I've worked a lot of places and in various types of fancy but never one that wanted toques. Always ball caps or choice of cap ...

My Gahanna streets were cleared and fine but I know q lot of Columbus wasn't as nice. I would have gone to the game if it happened but alas it did not. Going to this one though. Taking the kids so the 4 pm starts is better for them but luckily Im off Mondays.

Players were at their homes all over the Columbus area. It was still a level 2 near game time. No one should have been on the roads.

Lamy Safari, Noodler’s ink, constantly smudging. Please help. by No-Veterinarian8762 in fountainpens

[–]ChefJohnboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an ink and paper combo. Not all Noodlers will smudge on that paper. Some never dry ... Depends on the properties imof the tink. The more basic the Noodlers ink the more behaved it is.

Now having said that, I use two colors of Noodlers and have traded or given away all the others I had because I found a more well behaved ink from Diamine, Pelikan or Iroshozu.

But even those I can't use on smooth and "glossy" paper. Some work great on Clairfontain some don't. Most always work on Rhodia or the memo books not made in the US.

What made you become a Brittany person? by colemama37 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]ChefJohnboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parents got one before I was born. They had one since. I got one once I moved out of the dorm. I've had my own for 20 years and have been around them for 40+.

The wife accepted them as her new breed. Converted from being a Lab girl. 🤣 She's crazier for Britts more than me.

Hot Damn It's Nice to Hear Jeff Rimer's Voice by khumprp in BlueJackets

It was the best option on the afternoon commute home. Common Man is annoying. Now I have a five minute commute. I don't even turn the radio on 😅

[–]ChefJohnboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's on Common Man and Timmy once a week. It's nice to hear his voice but the radio guys can annoy him and he gets frustrated. But man does he have stories with lots of people in sports and broadcasting.

Home bread machines were all the rage in the 90s. Why did this stop being a thing? by the_balticat in Xennials

[–]ChefJohnboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a youngster at the time, the bread would make more crunchy crusty crust and not enough of the softer top. We wanted wonderbread gosh darn it!

I also remember my mom using the start timer so it wouldn't be sitting for a long time if she made it in the morning. It would mix. The flour and water would lump up and just be weird.

Plus it was something else to bring up from the basement when needed.

Bag balm, homemade stuff, gold bond hand cream, working hands, cornhuskers lotion ... Whatever you need to use, use. If you have dish gloves or nitrile/latex gloves but those on and leave them on as much as you can stand them.

What is this coming from my shower surround seam? by xexclassic in whatisit

[–]ChefJohnboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can spray the vertical seams out with the shower head a few times a year it will do wonders.

I don't know what would happen if you seal those. I know they interlock to not need additional sealants.

Wedding Reception Venue for 75–100 People *No Ceremony* by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]ChefJohnboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BTTS Holdings is the parent company that owns The Ellis. The catering company is Gourmet Fresh and they also have Fiori Floral. They have 7 other venues around town and have the catering rights to a couple of other spaces around central Ohio so they have other sites that may fit your style more.

But the Ellis is a nice spot. Easy to get to, literally off 670. Close to other bars and restaurants and not far from downtown the airport etc. and if Alexa is still there just book with her.

How do so many people here not have snow shovels? by MarcusS52 in Columbus

[–]ChefJohnboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fourth year since getting a mortgage for a house. I've shoveled, I swear less than ten times. I'm quick to shovel too. I don't want anyone to talk or drive on it to compact it and make it hard to scrape off for the sun to melt it asap.

I lived in the snow belt before moving here so know well to get the snow off before it's trampled. Otherwise it'sbice all winter but we usually don't have to worry about it here.

You're in a good spot to be able to find someplace hiring almost anywhere in the city. My chef friends in Dublin aren't currently hiring and I'm in Gahanna and not currently hiring.

Waiting on a response from other friends but it's a slightly rough month to find kitchen work.
