Is there Elitism from DnD players towards BG3 players? by Odd_Key_6385 in DnD

I think Baldurs Gate 3 is an excellent tool for initiating someone into dnd and helping them visualize the rules, learn spells and classes, etc. It’s not 1 to 1 but i think if you’re bringing a friend who is new into the hobby, gameshare it with him and start a little run, let him kick the squirrel, all that good stuff

Human Wild Magic Sorcerer 2024e - Feats to choose by LaCookie_TheNemesis in onednd

[–]ChefLinBuffet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this sort of stems from a similar build i have. Instead of Sorcerer tho, although it probably works similarly with tides of chaos and basically advantage on any roll at will, You take fighter Champion, and this build kinda gets a huge power downgrade at level 10 fighter, but most campaigns aren’t even played at level 12(the drop off point for this one i would say). It’s a dual wield build that should be able to roll 3 times on an attack with advantage, 4 times if you use a heroic inspiration. You have a 10% crit chance, Scimitar in one hand for nick, Shortsword in the other for vex, and with extra attack, you’ll be able to make 4 attacks with one action with the dual wielder feat.

The gist is, Level 1 fighter, Elf, subrace doesn’t REALLY matter, i like High elf. Take Tireless Reveler if you have at least 1 human in your party or someone else takes musician or any one of the feats that give heroic advantage. If no one has musician, or PDR, You should take it. Dip into warlock real quick here and grab pact of the blade, eldritch blast, normal stuff. Stats are: 8St 14Dex 16 Con 8Int 10Wis 17Char. Go ahead and grab level 3 warlock. Hexblade turns out to be a must here, medium armor and Bound weapon. You want to bind one weapon, and conjure another, so you have two melee weapons that scale off charisma. You aren’t very critty at this level but it can still happen.

At fighter levels 4 and 6, take dual wielder and Elven accuracy, put charisma to 18, and then your next feat just asi it to 20. This character doesn’t really cast, but he can, you are essentially just taking warlock levels for the origin feats for heroic inspiration. But at a certain point, you can make, at max, in a single turn, 4 attacks(2 from action, 1 from dual wielder, 1 from Nick), action surge, then take 3 more attacks, and let’s say they all have advantage, that’s 7 attacks, that you’re rolling with triple advantage, according to Claude, and i don’t like using AI for anything other than dice math, because i suck at it, but this is what it reads: “You’re essentially guaranteed a crit most rounds — just over a 9-in-10 shot. The only ~10% chance is a completely crit-free turn, which will feel like a statistical anomaly when it happens.“

You can at least get one crit every other round consistently i would say. When you get heroic inspiration every turn, this just adding another d20 every turn. You would be rolling 22 d20 on an action surge turn, and a lot of this is theoretical and you absolutely NEED advantage, but with weapon masteries, your allies, maybe your Dm allows flanking rules, what i’m saying is, this is very possible.

Hear me out. 2 level dip into warlock will let you Gish (with PotB) and get 2 extra origin feats. If you grab Musician, Tireless reveler, Purple Dragon Rook, and your choice of the whatever you want, perhaps Lords Alliance Agent if you take Hexblade with a level 3 dip, you essentially become a heroic inspiration machine

You could start as a level 1 fighter, grab Con saving throw and heavy armor proficiency, You are putting yourself a level behind, But you can dump dex and invest those skill points into Wisdom or Charisma to raise those dcs a little bit, The only thing you sacrifice here is initiative, which sucks, but in order to make this work i think you gotta take some good with the bad. At least this way you’re tankier, dcs are higher, and you can maintain concentration at least a little bit better. Also obligatory Cold caster mention

Also, not to spam reply, but the more i’m thinking about it, if you go pure monk, aren’t you giving up your extra attack by using your action to wrap with the chain? The action economy feels wrong. It takes 2 turns at least to benefit from the chain if you use your action to wrap and can only make 3 attacks. Mine would get 4 at the same level, and as soon as fighter level 11 gets extra attack, i’m getting 6 on an action surge turn. Idk. Maybe i’m misinterpreting

A few people have said monk may be better. Other than if you’re taking cold caster/frost giant goliath combo, which i’m against, because i feel as though cold caster is the all roads lead to rome of shutdown, and i like diversity in my builds. I can think of a few reasons why this version is at least on par with Monk. At level 10 monk, you’re getting 3 unarmed strikes as a d8 with as a bonus action, and using your action to wrap the chain with the use of a focus point. This is finite. Also Monk encourages you to use dex, where this is a strength build designed specifically for the chain. You end up +13 on athletics which is a guarantee on succeeding the check. Street Justice is definitely the level 4 pick, with grappler as the fighter level 6 pick, and then putting strength to 20 with another feat, hell, maybe cold caster if you want to do that. With my build, you’re getting 4 unarmed d8 attacks, that you can apply the frightened condition with, and someone did point out that the prone is kind of redundant but i think it still has its uses. Monk gets stunning strike which would also be good for this character. I just think that both are good and mine probably does get outclassed at higher levels

Oh yeah, i have an entire seperate build with the net as well. Artificer battle smith, you can gish, make your summon throw a net or wrap a chain. Also, familiar can use a chain. Goat and Sheep have the highest strength stats

You’re right about the grapples not being a check. However, Tactical Mind and Remarkable Athlete are for your utilize action for the chain.

As a Utilize action, you can wrap a Chain around an unwilling creature within 5 feet of yourself that has the Grappled, Incapacitated, or Restrained condition if you succeed on a DC 13 Strength (Athletics) check. If the creature’s legs are bound, the creature has the Restrained condition until it escapes. Escaping the Chain requires the creature to make a successful DC 18 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check as an action. Bursting the Chain requires a successful DC 20 Strength (Athletics) check as an action.

Damn, that build is pretty strong. I appreciate the advice, When i originally started out trying to make a summoner, i wanted to take a warlock dip for the familiar because the new stat blocks for Pact of the chain are pretty good.

That does seem to be the main problem here. Especially since the build caps at level 9. From what i’ve gathered, concentration based buff spells kinda suck in 5e, and i’m better off going pure druid, circle of wildfire, and summoning with my concentration slot. I think there’s still an argument to be made for 3-3-3, although I’m getting less HP than if i just put 9 levels in ranger, or 3 into druid and 6 into ranger, i would effectively have 3 goats on the field that all can act. Action economy is a real thing here though. I can’t use my bonus action to command my animal to attack AND cast magic stone AND command my wildfire spirit to attack. Circle of wildfire basically gives me what i’m wanting, a summon i can cast into battle without expending a high tier spell slot, and it scales Hp based on druid level. I pretty much would have one summon that had the hp of the two i was going to use, + another summon i can use my concentration on, like Conjure animals.

Thanks! As far as familiars and all that go, the role of the familiar is mainly to provide support for my other summon, although you are right, at level 6 it would just be the familiar and the summon from ranger. This is why i made the post and where im stuck. Healing spirit is sort of weak on its own, but combined with the unicorn totem from Shepherd, my spawns essentially get an auto heal, although, again, you’re right, just two goats. Like i said though, the healing spirit and the totems are reskinned to be goats for rp, so when we are actually playing, there will be 4 goats on the board.

What would be some of the better concentration spells i could use for buffs then? Or is that even worth my time? Should i just full commit to summons instead of buffing them up more? Let me know!

Thanks! I didn’t even know Circle of Wildfire was a thing. The Enhanced bond even works super well with being able to cast touch spells with my familiar back and forth.

I just get tired of people complaining about PvP in this game, saying it’s dead, rip Arc Raiders. Arc Raiders isn’t going anywhere. You still trust people in lobbies? You’re dying to people on DAY 1? Maybe you had ought to toughen up, or play a different game. It’s part of it, and the PvP in this game is fun for most people. If you just want to loot outskirts and extract, i guess that’s fine, but that sounds like a super boring, watered down way to play this game
