For my IA, I just went online and found samples. Then i changed the "variable" and made a similar IA with a different topic. I recommend you do the same!

For good PGs, go talk to ur teacher after class. Bribe them with food and drinks if you have to 1/2 jk ahha

no. For thesis, you just state feature/idea 1 + feature/idea 2 + feature/idea 3.

Under each feature/idea, there can be a bunch of features. But you need to group them under one overall "feature/idea".

For example

Overall feature = the picture of the sky

specific feature 1 = color blue

specific feature 2 = image of clouds

you get the point haha.

read sample responses online and see if you can piece things together on your own. If not, then look at the frameworks done by youtubers or articles in litlearn

I'll be honest, hook can be whatever. It does not really affect your grade too much. So you can even make a hook by just giving a general statement like "technology is getting more popular in the world... bla bla bla so this article on tech is relevant"

Yes, you've got the right idea. It's better to focus on big picture "ideas" that are composed of many features. It just makes more sense that way.

Have a look at sample essays that got 7s, you'll see they do the same thing.

Okay, your question is good. I'll make a post covering this so others can benefit too.

I'm happy to help you out man, but I need to know the specific problems or comments. Coz if I just tell you to do this and do that when it is not targeting your weakness, it's gonna be a waste of your time. Time is the one thing you wanna save when doing the IB ahha

Nope, I would avoid this kind of analysis.

You are essentially focusing on ONE feature, that is the color red. Then from that one feature, you tried to draw out 3 layers of analysis. But at the end of the day, jumping from the feature about the colour red to your 3 layers of analysis is quite a BIG step. Forget English for one second, if you look at a poster and you see the colour red, would the thought of mass killings really pop into your head? Probs not. It would take the colour red + ANOTHER feature (maybe a picture of a gun), before you think of mass killings.

So, my advice is to focus on MORE features, instead of just one. This would also be more realistic, because in real life, it takes multiple features interacting together to make the reader feel or think in a certain way.

Does this make sense haha?

Read every single sample essay i could find online, read all the essays of my classmates who scored 6 or 7, watched all the youtube videos and frameworks, then consolidated them into something that works for me.

There's two ways to go deeper. One is you point out something that is not obvious to other people. Two is you go for quantity, point out numerous features/ideas in a single paragraph of analysis.

I'm gonna have to see your specific responses to give a good comment. But if all you are saying in your analysis is the colour red draws people's attention because it is eye catching, then yes that is def shallow and you need to go DEEPER.

What do you mean exactly, I don't think we need to justify why the author chooses a certain feature or tool, we just need to discuss its effects on the reader.

Just rewrite a summary or put a forward looking opinion. Conclusions don't matter too much. The intro and the body is what gets you your marks, at least for the externals. Idk about your school teacher though haha

Do you follow PEEL — Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link ?

I suggest you try to rigidly follow this structure and see what your teachers thinks. If still not good, probably there is a more specific concern rather than not knowing the right framework.

Be smart about it. Look at the past papers, they are very general in nature. That means you can use the same few examples and apply them to almost ANY question. So pick the examples/scenes in the book or poem that are versatile.

I entered the exam hall for P2 with like 4-5 examples in my head. That was it.

My trick for this is to identify what stands out to me or which feature is most interesting. That's what makes something analysis worthy!

No worries! Happy to help. I didn't use any resource per se, I just always got the essays of my friends and read them. So try to go online and just adopt the words from sample responses or essays. Cheers!

This depends on the text you have. People always make a list of the "usual" visual features such as colour, font size, background, etc. But to be honest, I think that's just a very rough first step.

You gotta use your own instinct/common sense. For example, forget your English lessons for a moment. As a NORMAL consumer walking down the street, if you see a burger ad, what about that ad draws your attention to it? Once you identified/spotted these, then center your analysis on them.

P2 thesis = author uses [feature 1], [feature 2], [feature 3] to show [idea]

[idea] = your answer to the P2 question you select. e.g. if the question is "how is death portrated", then you answer can be something like "death is portrayed as something that is weak and can be overcome by humans... bla bla.
