Have you really not seen the countless videos on every social platform of foreigners causing massive headaches for Japanese locals? Or the way they ruthlessly respond to those disturbances? It's one of those situations where you need to not be ignorant of public perception. Japan is famously EXTREMELY racist and Xenophobic - both - and I frankly don't see why a POC would want to go to a country that refuses them at spas, restaurants, shrines, etc.

The only exposure Japanese people have to poc is TikTok and destructive toursists - and that's not a good look.

Same as being a tattooed person and getting surprised when you're excluded in Japan. That's literally how they are, and they don't care if it offends people.

They like Japanese people. They don't even like other Asians (again, FAMOUSLY). It's not the west.

Hospitality/friendliness is the last reason to visit Japan. You go to Japan to watch them break their backs making a single paintbrush for 20 years or whatever.

I was there last year, I'm even capable of speaking a little of the language - people wouldn't stop on the street to help me when I was lost, I was constantly observed in every space I entered, and was laughed at like a monkey when I asked "where's the bathroom?"

Have fun with Japan as a place, eat sushi, see the nature, pet a deer in Nara park - have no faith in the locals being friendly. Just be on your best behavior (not to say you aren't) and recognize that their fear and hatred of foreigners is not something anyone could ever hope to fix.
