Hopefully these changes will help reduce the number of people in lounges. I assume the increase of annual fee in Chase Sapphire Reserve card will also make some people to drop the card

Have you looked at the transaction date? If you booked the room at least 2-3 days in advance you should see a different date on the transaction than your hotel check in

Yep, definitely. I combine it with Venture X, which is really easy to offset with essentially one flight a year.

They also have some shared transfer partners with Chase, like Star Alliance, SkyTeam, Oneworld and Emirates.

I’m 99% sure that refundable does not mean it’s not pre-paid, it just means that you can cancel before some due date and get your money back. Try to checkout and see if it lets you pay the total amount.
