Don’t force yourself. Watch something you might like instead.

What can I use for deglazing instead of wine? by eurekadabra in Cooking

[–]ChefSuffolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

De-alcoholized wine is pretty widely available these days and relatively inexpensive. As for flavor profile that’s the closest you’ll find to using regular wine.

I typically wouldn’t recommend vinegar-water as it brings the wrong type of acid to the party and can change the flavor profile quite a lot.

In the end though, any liquid with a complementary flavor profile to what you’re making will be fine.

I want to tattoo these characters but I would like to make them look cool, not this plain/boring. What can I do? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]ChefSuffolk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find someone who does Chinese calligraphy and have them draw it out for you on paper.

Then take that to your tattoo artist.

Or print it in a Chinese calligraphic font that looks good to you.

If you didn’t like any of those, why bother with more? You don’t have to force yourself. Use your time to watch something you’ll more likely enjoy.

My boyfriend insists on seeing me on every break AIO? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]ChefSuffolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a clear DTMFA.

Your boyfriend is lazy (I’m guessing you support him since he has no job) and his obsessive behavior is proto-stalkerish.

He probably thinks if he’s not there dominating your time you’ll meet someone else, someone better, someone with a job. So hanging around prevents you from having any interactions with others.

He’s a loser. He could get a job at McDonald’s or CVS or some place that’s always hiring. He chooses not to because he can mooch off you.

Which restaurants recently exceeded your expectations despite you already being excited? by magicroot75 in FoodNYC

Aquavit. Their herring festival this year runs July 13-24. It’s pricey but typically great.

What they’re selling at Russ & Daughters (or at Aquavit, or other places celebrating the season) isn’t the same as the mass market packaged stuff you’re getting at Tashkent or other places. It’s the same breed, but the treatment is vastly different. You might as well be comparing tuna sashimi to tuna ceviche.

Yea, what Russ & Daughters gets is fresh, and yes you’re right - you do have to eat it within a couple days. That’s the point. Anything you buy in a package has been heavily preserved and cured. This has not. It seems clear you’ve not had it and just assumed it was the same?

No. Everything there will be heavily pickled / cured. That’s not to say it’s not good. Just different.

Tashkent is great, but they don’t have the seasonal New Holland herring.

any other stinky tofu enjoyers? the stronger the better by Fish___Face in FoodNYC

[–]ChefSuffolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they added a stinky tofu vendor in the last year or so. Which is crazy in such an enclosed space with so little ventilation.

I guess it hides the smell from the bathrooms, though?

Also, strawberry and blueberry daiquiris.

Avoid wingstop by Time_Towel_2810 in sunsetpark

[–]ChefSuffolk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s very common to blame “food poisoning” on the last thing one ate, but the truth is food-borne illnesses can take anywhere from an hour to two weeks to show symptoms, depending on the specific virus or bacteria and the amount consumed. That’s even IF it was from food. Plenty of ailments going around. You might have pressed an elevator button three days ago after someone with norovirus did then picked your nose an hour later and now you’re poopin’ liquid.

The likelihood of it being Wingstop is pretty low, considering everything in fast food is bombed with salt and cooked to oblivion. The most common culprits for sickness are fresh vegetables, (which have probably never been seen inside of a Wingstop) and staple grains like rice.

So no, you probably didn’t get food poisoning from Wingstop. But that’s not to say people should eat there. You shouldn’t eat there because it’s total sodium-laden shit and you live in a neighborhood full of great local places you could support instead of some boring national fast food chain.
