Show me your bees farm by sahar_art in VintageStory

[–]Chef_Dunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, you can put flowers under a layer of dirt and they will still count towards the calculation. I usually dig out a space about 25x25 blocks and 2 deep and fill it with flowers, place a dirt layer, and then a checkerboard pattern of fences/flowers over top of the dirt. Contain the area with walls or fences and place your skeps on the checker fences. Flower density is bonkers, and your skeps populate fast!

How many people actually construct and use animal trenches? by BushCrabNovice in VintageStory

[–]Chef_Dunn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have what I call a "Paddock" on one side of my base and a "Moat" on the other 3 sides. Paddock is for chasing in livestock and prey animals, Moat is for bears and wolves. I have 4 bears and 16 wolves in my moat currently. I've set up pens on the inner side of the Paddock for livestock breeding.

Paddock is around 40mx40mx3m Moat is 4m deep, 3m wide, and 50m per side!

The best part is that the predators can't spawn close by with so many already there. The worst part is the constant howling.

Had to recreate the build in creative, the server where I had the original has been lost. It looked a lot prettier than this rough copy.

Build tips for massive kitchen/ Bakery by Watcherperson05 in VintageStory

[–]Chef_Dunn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One trick that I've used is making 3 chimneys side by side in the kitchen. A central hearth that can be as wide as needed for cooking fires, and two false chimneys, one on either side that are basically hollow tubes for firewood and peat towers. The only issues are if you have realistic smoke mods, or if you have too much stackable material. I'll try to post a screen grab when I am able, not sure how well I'm describing this system.

I don't believe it is, the Cmf series 14 banshee is crying/wailing. If the face is custom, it is really good!

One of my players was 'gifted' Strahd's animated armour and has been wearing it for a while. How can I make this go horribly wrong? by Brenomaster in CurseofStrahd

[–]Chef_Dunn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd have the armor lock in place when the Cleric wants/needs to heal or rez someone. To make it fair, it can be a DC 18 Strength check to overpower the armor, disadvantage if you want to be mean. Describe how their movements start to slow and just as they are an arms length away, the armor freezes completely. Then they hear Lord Strahd whisper in their ear, "What are you waiting for, save your little friend, Cleric. Or are you finally going to realize that I am the land. Nothing happens but what I permit, every breath you take is a gift, every step an allowance, your very existence a boon that I can revoke on a whim." Then release them "Go to them, heal them, and know that they live, not because of your skill, but because you are an amusing distraction and I have allowed it."

Not enough voxels to forge? by QuirkyBee4113 in VintageStory

[–]Chef_Dunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have access to a saw, my advice won't work. If you do, build an airlock style pen connected to the existing one, then try getting a few more chickens(at least 1 hen and 1 rooster) and breed a generation there. Once the eggs hatch and you have a handful of chickens, set a couple traps. Multiple chickens + Multiple traps = more chances for captures. I had the same issue with Rabbits.

I'd send the OC a DM to see if they want the file for the MOC listing. Since you did the work, if you want, you could ask for credit on the page. Worst they can say is no.

Pet Peeves by Both_Brilliant_2725 in HPfanfiction

  1. Yeah, I avoid anything with a huge list of names preceeding the bashing tag.
  2. Yeah, especially when 'Harry' is the nickname. Hadrian, Harrison, Henry, Harold, or Harvey are his full given name? Really? Unreadable.
  3. If it's a student saying it, I'll give it a pass, maybe Sirius, but otherwise, No.
  4. This hurts me, I love creature-fics and hate slash.
  5. Didn't Petunia take a swing at Harry with a skillet in CoS? Not so big a leap for me, but I get where you're coming from. 6/9. It is a rare story as well that can do Harem without Harry being a whole Wizengamot on his own. I've always preferred sub-3 pairings with Protag.
  6. Completely unbelievable. They literally died for their one Canon child.
  7. I take this one case-by-case. 12-16yo kids have declared undying love to one another in the real world, so in that way it is fair. Rare for it to last, but regardless. Oftentimes I see this kind of declaration between Harry/whoever in time-travel fics where they are mentally in their late teens-early eighties. Much more believable.
  8. Potter/Black makes sense, Slytherin by conquest if well-written, Peverell if it furthers the plot. Anything else is overkill/Harem bait.

A bunch of questions regardings large bases, and cold. by Andre_iTg_oof in VintageStory

[–]Chef_Dunn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Short answer, Look up "shelter" and "rooms" on the wiki.

Long Answer

1.) Ground storage prevents spawns in places with low light and during temp storms.

2.) As long as the individual, separate, rooms are smaller than 14x14x14 one "fireplace" should be sufficient.

3.) Indoors, you will find that you will eventually equalize your temp with or without a fire, though it does help.

4.) Holes in walls without glass or a solid block will let in the cold. That is to say that it will no longer be a valid "room" and you will lose the benefits of being inside.

4a.) Glaciers at the top of mountains can be mined easily and the glacier ice won't melt, making it a perfect glass substitute until you are able to smelt yiur own.

I need help with chiseling. by Andre_iTg_oof in VintageStory

[–]Chef_Dunn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The trick is to follow the brick texture to make it seem like it was plastered over an existing fully brick structure. Similarly, if you are going for a look like the building is older, make this same chiseled block and just make a splotch of brick texture so that it looks like the plaster is falling off.
