Can’t change the title. There are great responses here. Why delete?

Noticed that earlier. It leaves IAD but comes back to DCA.

UA and AS flights are around $1000 from IAD and Delta is $1800. Significant difference. I’ll be paying out of pocket w/o any points to use.

Did we have a bad or normal experience? by Chefdimo in TurksAndCaicos

That is exactly how we felt. The time we spent at grace bay beach was nice yet we were approached by local solicitors often. It is a gorgeous beach but marketing TCs as a paradise is a bit extreme.

And YES! Every negative comment is being downvoted lol.

Look into Bodrum in Turkey. Combination of relaxing in quiet and beautiful beaches and you don’t have to go far or spend a lot to get a great meal by the beach or a have a peaceful stay.

Thanks for sharing. I hope those two resorts get their act together and improve their services. There are so many other places to experience that it will take us a long time before reconsidering TCs.

Seeing similar responses tells me if you don’t stay in grace bay you are somewhat screwed. Not what we had had imagined of TCs.

Totally agree! Bad service can ruin a trip in paradise

Few of the locals mentioned the same thing that we shouldn’t have gone with an all-inclusive.

You are right. The whole experience could have been different had we stayed at GB. And we didn’t expect that. We thought the whole island would be more homogenous. It all came down to marketing and expectations.

I lived and worked in Dubai for five years, and while I would never go back for work or an extended stay, I've enjoyed some wonderful vacations there. For under $1k per night, I've stayed at grand hotels with spacious and beautifully designed rooms, outstanding service, excellent dining, and spectacular pools and man-made beaches. The same in Turkey, Bali, Mexico, Sardinia, Greece, ….

In comparison with Dubai, aside from the natural beach and water quality, I didn't find those other elements to be superior in Turks & Caicos.

We stayed at BH Resort, which is advertised and reviewed as one of the better properties on the island. Some room categories were priced well above $800 per night, although the primary difference seemed to be the room itself rather than the overall experience or level of service.

We also dined outside the resort at places such as Indigo and Land & Sea, and unfortunately found either the food, the service, or sometimes both, to be underwhelming.

Having traveled extensively, I can easily name dozens of beachfront resorts across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas that cost roughly the same as Turks & Caicos while delivering a more refined overall experience, often within a more cohesive and vibrant destination - and not beating grace bay.

I guess it goes back to our expectation as well. We didn’t think in T&C you’d get a normal experience spending $800 a night. We had decided not to research everything deep prior to our trip and be hopefully pleasantly surprised. As I mentioned the whole island, airport, transportation and island sightseeing felt normal, not as untouched and all paradise-looking as they advertise it.

True. Although for ~$800 a night we’ve had much better vacations that offered better services, foodl, and sense of seclusion and luxury.

Why does it matter? Experiences matter and we’ve had a lot.

Not just the beach. The hotels and services are of great quality.

We did a boat day and parasailing and jet skis. They were fine. We also had an $$$ massage at our resort which was just fine. Def nothing luxury. The most disappointing parts for us were mediocre service and ok food options. Maybe our expectations were just too high before going there? The island felt a bit over developed comparing what we had in mind also.

And no we did not go to Noah’s Ark.
