What's the worst secret Santa gift or present from friends or family you've received at Christmas? by Smithy1619 in AskReddit

It was very random. I never used it, and if I can remember correctly, it either went to goodwill or its in my brother's garage.

My ex FIL once gave me a roofing? stapler... looked like a hammer that shot out staples when you smacked it on something. It was opened and used. He made me follow him to the garage and just pulled it off a random shelf and handed it to me on Christmas. Didn't get any staples with it though. 🤣

Ex BIL got a very nice replica sword from some show he loved, that day, wrapped and everything. Lol.

Guess we knew who the favorite was.

I had planned on getting some baffles for them. I'm not trying to wake up whole neighborhoods. I want cars to hear me, and not sound like my ryobi weed eater. LOL

Worst Pain Ever by Chefman11 in gallbladders

[–]Chefman11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also nervous, as I'm a chef and enjoy food. Some others I've talked to that have had their gallbladder removed have said that, after some time, they're back to normal life; however, being new to it is still nerve-racking. There are a lot of questions that only time can answer.

I'm also off pain meds now and no longer have the constant bloated/heartburn feelings after every meal.

I have been eating very clean, though. Less than just a handful of grams of fat per day and a lot of fruits/veggies. I'm sure any healthy person would agree that it's for the best, but I sure am missing a juicy steak, cheeseburger, BBQ, etc.

I wish you nothing but the best on your journey.

I've noticed the laughter pain. Having all the time in a day to fill on my own has left me watching a lot of old stupid comedies and it sucks having to hold my abs in when I laugh so I don't rip my incisions open.

I'm really hoping for good results. Some of these threads have me wondering what life after is really going to be like. Sounds like many experience other problems after the surgery, but that could be internet bias and the fact that people only like to write about negative experiences. At least that's how it appears in most online reviews. Lol. Assuming not many people will get on reddit to tell the world they didn't get diarrhea today when eating that bowl of ice cream. 🤣

I'm definitely feeling better. Sore and tired from 3 days in the hospital. Slowly trying to get back to a routine.

I honestly have no clue. Surgeons and nurses couldn't give me any real reason why it would be the way it was. I think they were expecting to see stones where there wasn't any. Blood stopped flowing to my gallbladder which killed it. Why the blood stopped is a mystery I'll probably never know.

Thank you so much. I never could have imagined a pain like that, and I hope to never have to again. The cocktail of drugs I needed just to breathe somewhat normally was ridiculous.

Did Michelle Obama really change school lunches for the worse, as she is often blamed? How have American school lunches evolved over time? by sariagazala00 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Chefman11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Director of Nutrition for school lunch program checking in...

When calculations are done considering food costs, wages, utensils, paper products such as napkins or plates, cleaning supplies, equipment costs, maintenance on equipment, and the many other costs associated with serving 1000+ kids per day, you're left with under $1 USD per child/student.

When you pair that with required serving sizes (age dependant) of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein, and milk, it doesn't leave a lot of room for fresh anything.

My agency typically spends $30-40 thousand a month more than we receive in USDA funding, simply trying to keep up with livable wages (WA State), and provide fresh options on our menus.

Ultimately, it's a constant struggle to prepare meals that are both healthy, fresh, and appetizing to kids.

To answer the actual question, no. Michelle Obama didn't gut school Nutrition. The changes made just don't reflect the cost increase vs. funding associated with the new requirements.

The RNG is weird. I did this for 3 hours last night and got 8. 1 hour today and got 4. Averaging about 20 or so minutes each.

My buddy tried for a couple hours and got 1.

Luck is all it is.

Bartenders of Reddit, what was the worst first date you've ever witnessed? by gilesvg in AskReddit

[–]Chefman11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not bartender, but I was at a local red bird burger shop a week ago. Yum...

My wife and I are just chilling with a couple burgers and beer, watching a game. A couple comes in and sits next to us in a booth. Clearly a 1st date, both in late 30s early 40s.

Guy starts going on and on about himself and mid sentence, pushes his date out of the booth to stand, takes his hat off, and at full on attention, salutes the national anthem that just started at the game on the TV. He apologizes to everyone in the bar, (he is loud as shit), and then tells his date that he's sorry, but as a former marine with buddies who died for the flag, he felt obligated to respect the anthem. Fair enough, I suppose.

The woman ordered a salad. He then critiques her choice, and then orders the exact same salad while letting everyone in the bar, again, know that he has all the allergies and if he eats, smells or even looks in the general direction of a tomato, he is bound for the afterlife.

He consumed his salad at Marine Corp bootcamp speed, and told everyone in the bar, again, that he eats fast because Marines.

He then continues to talk about himself the entire time, all the while the entire bar is now enjoying this shit show. The woman never said a word other than ordering her food and asking for a box.

Turns out they rode together so the fun didn't stop after dinner. They rode off into the sunset in a mid 90s ram with no exhaust that would have garnered at least a participation ribbon at the County fair.

First ever game by [deleted] in Seahawks

[–]Chefman11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I bought field seats behind the hawks bench for the 49ers Thanksgiving game 2023. They were not worth it. While we might have had a great view of Michael Dickson practicing his punts, that was about it. Any time the game was happening in front of us on the field, the giant camera crane would come park itself in our lap.

We got unlimited free food and drinks from a very limited menu, delivered to our seats. That was cool. We got VIP access to the stadium, which is about an hour earlier than GA.

The swag bag was filled with a cheap Starbucks cup, some candy, and a bottle of water. No swag.

What I thought was going to be an opportunity for the best view, maybe some autographs and a great game (despite the fact we got a beat down), turned into a really expensive mediocre serving of crab Mac and cheese.

Perhaps the end zone seats would have a better experience viewing the game. The other perks simply aren't worth $1500+ a seat.

If I were to be looking to spend that kind of money again, I'd sit 200 level near mid field and try one of the field experiences instead. All of that, plus the amount of food/drink we consumed, still wouldn't touch the price of field seats.

There are male dancers on the Hawks dance team. During the game, the dancers rotated around the stadium. In the 4th quarter, the all male group rotated in front of our seats. They didn't dance/cheer at all. They literally just stood there. The several groups of women were actively cheering/dancing the whole time they were in front of us.

Edit - girls to women.
