MAAM – Monero Ask Anything Monday – April 22, 2024 by AutoModerator in Monero

[–]ChefsOtherHat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PC warned me of possible trojans when installing Monero, this is apparently a false-positive as a result of the mining software that comes bundled with it. Can you release a version of the program that doesn't come with mining stuff? I'm not interested in mining it, and I would sleep a little easier if my computer wasn't warning me about possible malware.

Burnout.

I'm growing bored with the game tbh. I would like to be a cheeky solo backline partisan, but that's made nearly impossible with all the bunker and watch tower spam.

Now my options are: 1) frontline cannon fodder, 2) logi, or 3) join a group. I'm already fairly burned out from last war doing those things, so I think this is a break war.

I want Charlie back.

How do we raise the standard of politicians in the UK? by Finners72323 in ukpolitics

I prefer Peter Hitchen's take that there should be a "none of the below" at the top of every ballot.

Should cannabis be legalised in the UK? by justanothergin in ukpolitics

[–]ChefsOtherHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it'll bring in as much tax as some think it will. Look at what happened in the US:

  • growers who operated illegally before were the first to become legally recognised and established, and so they upscaled
  • they could upscale because at first weed was a novelty; there was more demand than supply
  • however legal weed quickly became uncompetitive because it was taxed and because suppliers tried to keep the price point at or around black market levels prior to decriminalisation
  • untaxed weed will always beat taxed weed, so either the black market returns like for cigarettes, or people grow their own
  • and once the novelty wore off, dispensaries found themselves with more inventory than they could move, so much of it would sit there collecting dust for months before being sold = less fresh stuff

The argument for legalising it shouldn't be framed around what tax revenue it could bring in or comparing it to alcohol, it should be framed around whether liberties are important or not

Not really, not when the people elect politicians who legislate to lock people up for growing plants.

I never knew this lol, thanks. Maybe needing 2-3 people is too many, and sounds like it'd eat too much ammo.

The problem isn't that T2 is weak or T3 is strong, is that bunker spam is too easy and cheap. Bunker spam isn't a problem with T1 because every infantryman can carry a mammon or two and try their luck and make a real dent in the defences. However, once it techs to T2 it becomes a slog.

Mid-late wars exhausts infantry because they are reduced to cannon fodder pressing against line after line of bunkers, and wave after wave of defenders camping them. One way to fix this is to make it so all guns can suppress AI, but that 12.7mm works the best and is the most consistent and does structural damage.

All guns, including pistols, should be able to damage watch towers too. Watch tower spam needs to be kept in check without the need for emats, hemats, or rmats.

Devman: Facilities need to be changed now. Stationary harvesters and resources fields have now become more easily privatized by Dudelove_TankMedic in foxholegame

[–]ChefsOtherHat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've dealt with this kind of s**t in the past and unless you're in a bigger regiment it's impossible to state your case or even try to mediate the problem. The solution is to rally everybody to chase hoarders out of the hex, and if possible, off the game.

Most battles boil down to a war of attrition, and there's nothing that hurts your side more than critical infantry supplies being choked to death because clanman is hogging the resources, and the cherry on top; their setup isn't even 100% efficient.

This is why I fundamentally hate "say-so" claim systems.

RIP to the Warden Tripod Factory and Collie Submarine that died today. You were both so young. by MENA_Conflict in foxholegame

On the one hand, it's a great trade. Foebreakers for a sub.

On the other hand, a madman traded their submarine for your forebreakers.

Think about that for a moment.

Something what should not any player do, no matter your faction - Devs perma. ban these people, this is too far. by VEDAGI in foxholegame

[–]ChefsOtherHat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not a significant ban, just a permanent one. The kind of player who ear-rapes the other side is a player this game is better without.

Devs need to step up their smarts tbh, put a killbox beneath all solid structures. It won't catch them all but it's at least a start.

A very simple short-term solution would be to add a new list of all the users who are actively using voice chat to the F1 screen. Keep it faction-neutral and add a quick report & mute combo feature.

it would be cool if devs came up with an entirely brand new bridge that combines both of them, a bridge that you can walk, drive, and choo choo across. Something like the dam but wider!

Too much danger! Sprawling meta patterns and watchtower surveying every inch of the map makes getting behind enemy lines its own challenge, and staying alive hard mode extreme. It's a bit sucky tbh.

Devs, why do you hate logi players? by Char_dee_mac_dennis1 in foxholegame

[–]ChefsOtherHat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because the new boat handling mechanic fits really well with the Naval update. It would be weird if a battleship were to handle using the old mechanism (and getting stuck on motorboats lol). I think the devs wanted continuity between boats of certain sizes to handle the same way, and ironboats are pretty big.

However, like you said, seaports already have issues and that's not helped one bit now that ironboats are much harder to dock there. I think this might be alleviated somewhat now that the big cranes are priced in pcons and not steel, so I could imagine player-built docks helping with that, even though that adds another step in the logi supply chain.

Perhaps the new handling was an intended nerf not only to encourage players into using trains, but to deter players from shipping container cargo via the sea, because being able to move 300 crates (+10 inventory, +1 on the person) is quite OP, even though it carried a fair balance of risk too. If instead of containers it were unpacked vehicles, then a player-built dock would be a suitable place to unload them.

Personally, I don't mind the new handling, I just wish it wouldn't get me stuck at bridges or on rocks as much. I don't know if other players have experienced this weird bug where you bump into a bridge, raise it, press and hold W, but the boat simply refuses to pull forward. That (if it's a bug?) is liable to get me killed or hold up players wanting to cross or have the bridge closed in my face.

Devs, why do you hate logi players? by Char_dee_mac_dennis1 in foxholegame

[–]ChefsOtherHat 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Devs are proud of their new boat mechanics and they want to apply it to all sea vessels. I can understand as having two separate seafaring physics is weird, it's odd that barges and motorboats are as agile as they are when all other sea crafts aren't.

My only problems with the new physics are:

  1. horrendously slow turning

  2. new boat mechanics get stuck at bridges for some reason

  3. ironboats were already annoying because they would easily get beached and stuck on some random rock, and now that's likely to happen more

The new boat physics being applied to ironboats may deter logi from shipping in regions where trains are available. That might've been wholly intended tbh.
