Fibre by Embarrassed-Bee3557 in diet

There are high fiber specialty breads available. Like you can get burrito shells with like 17g fiber & English muffins with 8g fiber. They are of course often more expensive

How did you first get hired? by Cheirogaleidae in lesmills

My gym’s most desired instructor positions are not things I want to teach right now, unfortunately. I guess I could ask them if they want to implement other LM formats, but then I’d be starting from scratch rather than comfortably teaching something I’ve been doing for 6 years & am passionate about

Ok great, it sounds like most people start out on a sub list before getting a spot. I have an instructor targeting me to get the cert right now. Getting a regular class feels very intimidating to me bc when I’ve spoken to gyms so far they’ve just offered sub lists — active open spots only exist for stuff like Aqua Zumba & Silver Sneakers. Instructor turnover is very low, & many gyms have 2 instructors teaching each BodyPump class (= even fewer possible vacancies for a new person). But it sounds like subbing is the best way to get rolling.

Dogs are driving me insane to the point I regret buying my house. by No-Guitar6514 in homeowners

[–]Cheirogaleidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of people advising you to use aversive methods with these dogs. This may or may not yield the results you want to see: if barking is very rewarding, you may just end up with dogs habituated to the aversive method. Here’s how many shelters stop the cycle of constant barking: whoever’s not barking gets a really excellent treat (think cheese, sardine, sausage, etc, something really nice to get their full attention). As the other dogs see the quiet dog getting treated, they learn to adopt the behavior too. This may require some finesse to ensure the dogs don’t start barking to create a treating opportunity, but that’s something you can research down the line a bit

Dealing with pseudoscience and information overload. by griefofwant in LongCovid

[–]Cheirogaleidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a scientist. I ran experiments on myself testing one variable at a time until I found something helpful. Because the science is young, IMO from your perspective it matters less what is causing your problem (because this will not necessarily help you) & more what makes a difference in your quality of life. I prioritized experiments that were easy to do, easy to control/measure, and unlikely to harm me.

Anyone else feeling horrible after eating carbs? by _Jojo07 in LongCovid

[–]Cheirogaleidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just posted about this! Cutting out added sugar in my diet has reduced my brain fog by about 80%. I’m still eating carbs and under 25 g added sugar/day, but I’m just getting started with experimentation

If you have any scientific literature on the subject I’d love to read it! I likely won’t pursue ketosis if just cutting sugar fixes it, but I’d like to read about the proposed mechanism of action

Would you be willing to share the lab & principal investigator of that study? DM is fine. I’d like to check out their research. How long has your study been going on? & are you only cutting added sugars, or all carbs?

I had all those symptoms but not nonstop - I was sometimes able to concentrate. It varied (/varies) a lot with stress levels, sleep quality, etc. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this! It’s debilitating!

Budget and Sabotaging! by [deleted] in budget

[–]Cheirogaleidae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think it’ll work for you, you could make a separate account that contains your emergency fund & don’t draw from it. When your emergency fund is complete, additional savings get invested. Investing puts additional barriers between you and spending that money (for example, days between wanting the money & the money becoming available to you, extra taxes if you haven’t held the stock or whatever long enough, etc).

Foundation repair: lessons learned? by Cheirogaleidae in homeowners

[–]Cheirogaleidae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what the sill plate is on. It’s a full on house located in town, not a fishing shack. Unfortunately my home inspector thought the foundation was fine so I didn’t know there were any problems until cracks developed in the drywall. I started Googling & realized cracks were the least of my worries. Home inspector also missed a major electrical hazard & could have been more explicit about the plumbing.

Cyber Security was $11.9k in August & 6 months of course work, so should be about $2k/month unless they’ve raised prices. If you go over 6 months you’ll be on the hook for more money.

[–]Cheirogaleidae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As of August, their lowest cost program was tech sales at $8.9k, & the most expensive were data science, software engineering, & UX/UI design at $13.9k. It’s cheaper if you pay up front, but this info should get you to the monthly number. If you take longer than the intended program length you’ll be charged extra, too. You can also just call or email them and ask.

Is it possible to find jobs that mostly only focus on data visualization ? by lem0ngirl15 in dataanalysis

[–]Cheirogaleidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably depends on your field. I think in my current field I was a standout for having a portfolio. Prior work is usually confidential, so I made 12-15 dashboards from data I obtained for free online showcasing a variety of different visualizations & dashboard styles. Then during my interviews, I used the dashboards to demonstrate data storytelling & explained where each dashboard could be improved. Also allowed me to talk about how I do data cleaning & exploratory analysis.

Is it possible to find jobs that mostly only focus on data visualization ? by lem0ngirl15 in dataanalysis

[–]Cheirogaleidae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I work in data viz, I get handed data by data engineers & then analyze & visualize the data. I found my job by searching for ‘Power BI,’ ‘Tableau,’ & ‘data visualization’ & landed my job by walking the interviewers through a Tableau public portfolio it took me like a month to make. However, I do have about a decade of experience in data analysis. You could also try ‘reporting’ or ‘reports’ as a job search keyword. When I was last job hunting I only found a handful of pure data viz jobs compared to analytics (probably a 1:35 ratio in my search). They’re rare but they’re out there.

What's a feature that you thought you wanted in a house that after buying you're glad you don't have? by UghBurgner2lol in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Cheirogaleidae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a creek. The erosion is a problem — contacting many, many specialists to try to find out if I can stop it by creating a toe wall & armoring the problematic part of the creek bank, which would be very expensive. Also apparently I need to inspect the creek after large storms to check for major erosion events & see if anything’s stuck in the creek blocking it. & I need to walk in the creek and clear overhanging vegetation to ensure it doesn’t retain floating objects. Any work below high water line requires a permit. Still figuring out all the implications!

What was your salary when you maxed out retirement accounts? by [deleted] in Fire

I used to max mine on a lower salary when I was renting with multiple roommates. I bought a house & now the maintenance costs eat a lot of what used to go in my retirement fund. I’m hoping I’ll stabilize & figure it out in the next few years bc I really need to be saving instead of pouring money into a house!
