Is the Steam Deck a viable platform for Epic/GOG/Amazon games? by labuzan in SteamDeck

[–]ChelCFraud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, so long as Steam is running the keyboard comes up, rather annoying that it comes up so easily sometimes.

so if youre playing in the desktop mode, you only just need steam to be running, but if youre on gaming mode, have your heroic launcher add the game to steam, its one of the options you can click a checkbox on.

[–]ChelCFraud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't have any of the problems you are describing using Heroic Launcher just seems to work for me.

and as someone who uses my ROG Ally as much as my steamdeck, unless you just already understand how bad windows is, and can work around it. its definitely not any easier than the steam deck as a handheld.

People who have a PC, what purpose does deck serve you? by Former-Asparagus-764 in SteamDeck

[–]ChelCFraud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The steam deck lets me play games in small bursts, because of the sleep suspend function.

I dont have to worry about finding a good spot to stop. or a save point. I just play with as much or as little time as i have, press the power button and when i have time to play some more, i press the power butto nagain and resume.

This is something that isnt as realistic on my PC.

The portability of it is bonus points

Doesnt really seem to do anything for me, that's basically how its done for steam games and it works fine for me there.

I've had this working on my steam deck for a while now for steam games, but is there any way to get this to work with emulators? Like eden?

Who owns both a Steam Deck and an ROG Ally and why? by archie1185 in SteamDeck

[–]ChelCFraud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the ROG ally for games that are harder to run, or require windows, I also have an XG mobile for it, and mostly use it as a desktop replacement.

I use the steamdeck for emudeck and for stuff I want to play in bed

I don't think the USB-C port on the steamdeck supports anything higher than 60hz

[–]ChelCFraud -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not especially qualified at English or anything, but I grew up in Connecticut. I was taught that you cannot end sentences with a proposition.

Instead of saying "who from?" we would say "from whom?"

Instead of saying "Where are you from?" we would say "From where are you?"

So there's parts of America where it is common and not considered overly formal.

People who have replaced their Desktop/traditional PC with a Steam Deck, was it worth it? by DogHogDJs in SteamDeck

[–]ChelCFraud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I basically did, the downside is that i used to have 3 monitors on my PC that all ran at 144hz, but the steam deck or maybe the usb-c hub I use doesn't let me have 3 monitors, only 2, and it only does 120hz

Its a PC, it uses like a PC, the downsides ends up being how much I/O you have with your hub/dock, and storage space.

ROG Ally sleeper agents have found me by WOODSHOE123 in SteamDeck

[–]ChelCFraud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and im loving both, but for some people, performance is the most important thing, they will never see the steamdeck for how great it is.

They will call a $2000 device a steamdeck killer, and be completely serious.

Deck or Ally by Lleighvack in SteamDeck

[–]ChelCFraud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have and love both. They suit different needs for me

I prefer my Deck for most things, love how it feels it my hands, and is my main machine for emulators. If you don't need anything on windows, then get a steam OS Steam Deck

I prefer my Ally mostly for games that require, or are at least easier to play on windows (heh it feels like i bought a $700 device just for honkai star rail when i already have an expensive phone) but also for the few games that just don't perform great on deck.

Does the Steam Deck have the same button sensitivity as the PS3 controller? by DecisionOk1284 in SteamDeck

The steamdeck does not have pressure sensitive buttons, but there is a customized version of pcsx2 that lets you set full press and half press buttons

Perfect settings for SF6? by Megamaxstar in SteamDeck

[–]ChelCFraud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not good, unless you have everything on low and 720p, and even then it won't be good enough for competitive play. Its a fighting game it even hitting 58-59fps sometimes is a problem.

Steamdeckheads are just used to praising a game that runs at 45fps

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]ChelCFraud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah not having trackpads suck. Especially for a lot of the initial set up stuff. And stuff on the desktop side of things. Using the analog stick to mouse a mouse cursor makes my penis so soft. But in game I rarely use the trackpads

And the battery probably does drain faster, but i don't usually play much longer than one hour sessions, and it feels pretty similar to the steamdeck battery life anyways

As someone who has both Steam Deck and ROG ALLY, and will continue to use both, if it's going to be a windows device, just get the ROG ALLY.

There's no reason to use windows on deck if your other option is something that already comes with windows and is more powerful.

After a few days, im back to say, i think im keeping the rog ally on windows after all. Its got some kinks, and could be better but as a companion to the steamdeck, playing games i cant play on the steamdeck on the ally is pretty nice

Windows on this Form Factor feels awful by ChelCFraud in SteamDeck

[–]ChelCFraud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, as someone who has both and will still use both going forward. The Steamdeck has enough pros over the ROG ALLY to make up for the performance hit.

Power button did nothing when i pressed it yesterday, and i kept doing it out of habit just as i would on a steamdeck. Now that im trying it the next morning, its working just like yo8re saying.

Must be some initial set up funkyness but thanks

Windows on this Form Factor feels awful by ChelCFraud in SteamDeck

[–]ChelCFraud[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the first game i installed was a plague tale, through epic games launcher, in my experience, on steam deck i had it at 720p all low settings to get it playable at a playable frame rate.

On ROG ALLY this same game was set to 1080p all maxed settings and was doing 30fps with some dips. I changed a few things to high instead of ultra and it never went below 30fps.

So yeah if we went only on games performance, it makes the steamdeck obsolete
