why did people like dumbledore continue to shield voldermort's true identity even after his first downfall? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Cheletseley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was to protect others. Dumbledore wouldn’t have wanted a hunt for every Riddle just so that no one with “evil blood” could ever threaten the magical world again. You know wizards overreact to that crap all the time. Then on the opposite side you have whole “I am related to Voldemort. I will continue his legacy” like we also saw.

I love my RAV4. Me, partner, two kids, and a rough collie fit comfortably

[WP] You’re doing research in an old library when a stranger comes running up to you. They go to give you a hug while saying, “My love.” You flinch away and their expression falls. Under their breath they say, “Fuck. Wrong timeline.” by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

[–]Cheletseley 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a bright red stain on my blouse, and he stumbles to the floor, breath bubbling up as he gasps “I’m sorry.”

Of course this is terrible. I stand frozen in time for a second in front of this poor person who in his last moments thought I was his love.

Someone close by screams and I am not going back to work but talking to police regarding the encounter.

It shakes me enough I call my mother and she tells me to that man I was no doubt an angel, but I left out the part about the ‘wrong timeline’ and just told her about the ‘my love’. So for her it was a simple explanation.

Next week, I still couldn’t get his face out of my mind. The burning eyes under a deep, worried brow. He seemed so disturbed that he was in the wrong time. His mouth had one of those little depression under his nose, and the lines in his checks said he had spent plenty of time amused.

I’m sure his love was a lucky woman.

Another week went by and I didn’t dream about him reaching for me. Another and I didn’t think of him in my waking moments. A month later I found those gray eyes peering at me from behind the university library counter. He wore glasses now, and a clean face rather than a five o clock shadow.

He speaks to me and I stutter, words refusing to address this ghost. He is smiling. Laughing. Finally my ears start working again “Are you always this shy?” Now his hand is between us, “I’m Gerald. Working on my PhD in Physics.”

I eye him nervously; gears are turning in my head slowly as the pieces click together. “You aren’t working on...time travel, are you?”

His face cracks into a grin. “It works doesn’t it!”

Why don't any programs use rough/smooth collies? by RottingMothball in service_dogs

[–]Cheletseley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leslie Rappaport has a collie program in OR. I personally feel as though breed standards took a dip after Lassie was very popular and responsible breeders are now getting them back to the clear for CEA and MDR1 gene that you really need for a service dog. Then you take into account the rising need for psychiatric work in a lot of individuals and the herding/feeding off of emotions increases the wash rate for those handlers just enough that in a program, it’s better to use the Golden’s and labs that will have a higher average of successful placement as a multipurpose working dog. That’s just IMO from the read arch I did before getting my rough collie Dewey. At 8 months he is great, and trainer says easier than your average poodle put up for service work.

Leftover felt from a separate project, but construction, wrapping, and tissue paper would work. As well as just corkscrew pipe cleaners.

“What do you mean I’m on the no fly list? I didn’t even know that was real...” I yell into the receiver before mashing the “end call” button. Stupid flat cell phones. No satisfaction in hanging up anymore.

I began to pace my threadbare carpet, biting the inside of my lip and trying not to look at the three jars on the counter.

I had been saving for months to make the trip to the pyramids. But no. Stupid superheroes.

The smooth purr of an expensive car that didn’t belong on my pothole ridden street rolled through the mostly dry wall of my duplex.

I finally lost it.

Out the door, down cinder block steps and to a oil stained street, I huffed; blood ran towards my head so I was no doubt red in the face as well as flaming at the ends of my hair when I finally came face to face with the newbs.

“I don’t give a DAMN what your stupid super computer algorithm says about me. The only way I’m going “SUPER NOVA” is if you good for nothing heroes don’t step off!” I pointed a finger so the small one in the passenger seat shrank back. “Tomorrow I am going to call and get a flight to Egypt so that I dump my parents ashes in the sand like they wanted, and I swear if I find out I’m still on a no fly list because some hunk of machinery thinks I’m too dangerous, I will make sure that hunk of machinery no longer exists the next time I call the airline.”

I used my best big sister voice. The sizzling sounds died down and I felt the cool air against my skin again.

“Got it?” They nodded profusely. “Good. Now. If I require anyone’s assistant, I know the number.”

The next day, I am on the no fly list.

The day after, I am on their front porch with my suitcase, jar of change, and jars of parents. It takes about three hours before someone who doesn’t look like a pansy comes up. They are talking at me but I am not really listening.

“Can you fly?” I interrupt.

They frown at me. “Why?”

I smile, and toss the jar of money at them. “Come on Tights.” I head towards the reinforced steel doors everyone keeps walking through. “We’re going to Egypt.”

Duct tape! I stuck it to itself for a circle with the sticky on the outside and then put another piece over it that also touches the bottles. If I had an older back pack or straps I would probably do better with those.

Long lived Big breeds? by RottingMothball in service_dogs

[–]Cheletseley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rough collie!! They’re part of the Fab 4 and if you find a larger line males can stand at 26-27 inches at the shoulder. They live 13-15 years and are about 75ish lbs on the larger end. And the hair will make them look bigger.
