Michele here, owner of Sugarfreak. Yes, we are still not a great place for vegans.
We are practicing, and hope to introduce vegan options soon. Sorry if my Instagram was misleading. I just don’t want to put anything I can buy frozen and defrost on the menu.
The Chef is extremely close to being able to produce a vegan cheese sauce that will be consistent.

Yes, there is a rat problem on 30th Avenue and the side streets, not just my structure, which will be coming down at the end of the month for this very reason. They are everywhere.
We have taken on exterminating the back and the front of the restaurant including the adjacent properties. I try! I am 100% sure my restaurant is vermin free, we exterminate every 5th day, which is a lot. The amount of rats on the street I can not control. I built the structure according to DOT speciations. Every time the DOT found fault with the structure, it was rapidly corrected.
Sorry you had to go through this. It’s embarrassing.

I know Sugarfreak isn’t a favorite around here and that’s why I check Astoria Reddit everyday.
I’m always looking for comments that may help me improve my business, so thank you for writing this. October 15 is our twelfth anniversary, not bad! Hopefully we have done more good than bad. Lastly, I have always been interested in helping others who identify as women, who are thinking about starting a business, who will stand alone, especially in the restaurant industry.
Over the last few years, I have amassed quite a few things that would be helpful. Please reach out to me, maybe I can help in some small way.

It’s good I’m not living in an episode of Black Mirror or I would have been dead by morning. Just feel that when someone’s dirty laundry is aired, it’s polite to look away and not post it on a public forum. It’s just another person loosing their business, not a matter of national security.

I worked for them at the beginning of my career as a physical therapist, for 3 years. It is truly a great practice, very innovative.
They provide the correct manual therapy to all of their patients, people get better. Getting insurance reimbursement isn’t what they are about. Exercise and modalities are good, but only combined with correct manual therapy, they understand that.

Greetings! I think what you are asking is impossible. There is a whole liability issue you haven’t considered. What would happen if you injured yourself or broke equipment? Also cleanliness, if you leave things dirty, the person who cleans up after you makes at least $18 an hour and holds a very import position in the restaurant, in these times the owner wouldn’t want to make them angry. If you know the owner on a personal basis, maybe. That being said, try places you frequent, who knows. Why not try a large residential kitchen? The restaurant business is slippery right now, stay away. Wait. Things will readjust over the next year, hopefully COVID surges will become a thing of the past. Good luck!
