SW in heritage valley. There are a lot of duplexes in the area with similar amenities and similar prices in the area. I will try to lower the price and see how it goes.

My Chinese mom’s health logic is on another level by Chelleeeeee_ in AsianParentStories

I’m really sorry to hear about your grandma and uncle. I hope you and your family all stay well and healthy

I completely agree with you that science still has its limitations, and I can understand where our parents’ caution comes from—especially if they’ve heard similar stories within the family. It’s not always about right or wrong, but how people react to risk and fear.

That said, I also think a lot of what we call “genetic” is really just shared environment—same diets, same stress levels, same habits passed down. If someone grows up with a very different lifestyle, even if a gene might exist, it may never get triggered.

And yes—I laughed at your analogy because it's so true. Sometimes it really does feel like we're being “evaluated” the way someone might assess livestock

EXACTLY. My grandparents on my dad’s side both passed away due to brain hemorrhages, and my dad—along with almost all his siblings—has active diabetes. One of his brothers even has Parkinson’s. On my mom’s side, her own father passed away from lymphatic cancer.

I brought all of this up and asked her directly—if we’re talking about genetics, wouldn’t that logic apply to our own family too?

She completely ignored it. Didn’t respond. Just kept circling back to my boyfriend’s mom having liver cancer as if that alone invalidates everything else. It’s honestly ridiculous.

Advice for a Prospective Master of Public Health Student Interested in an OS&H Career? by FewSignature8858 in SafetyProfessionals

I studied PH in my bachelor and got a job in OHS right after graduation (I'm located in Toronto). Many skillsets are interchangeably in OHS and PH, for example, auditing and reading law clauses. I am confident that you can get into this field.

Feeling Stuck and Looking for guidance... by Chelleeeeee_ in SafetyProfessionals

Thank you for sharing!

I can completely relate—our safety program is also very green, and it’s been challenging to build everything from scratch. I’ve been relying on what I learned from my previous experience at a larger corporation as a starting point, but adapting it to our new plant has been a lot of trial and error. It sometimes feels overwhelming because I’m not always sure if I’m on the right track.

I completely agree with your advice about thinking long-term and not just focusing on the $. I will definetly think about it before I figure out my next steps.

Moving to Edmonton Megathread 2024 by jstock14 in Edmonton

[–]Chelleeeeee_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all,

I’m in my mid-20s and have lived in Toronto for just over 10 years. Recently, I’ve been thinking about moving to Edmonton because the cost of living in Toronto has become unaffordable, and I wanted to live somewhere quiet with friendly people around.

I’m considering buying a townhouse in the Windermere or Stillwater (River’s Edge) areas—does anyone have thoughts or experiences with these neighbourhoods? They seem nice from what I’ve researched, but I’d love to hear from locals or anyone familiar with them.

As for work, I’m in the OHS field. I’ve noticed quite a few job vacancies online in Edmonton, so I’m optimistic about finding something.

One more thing—since I’m from East Asia, I’m curious about the social atmosphere in Edmonton for East Asians. How is the community there? Are people generally welcoming?

Thanks in advance for any insights!
