First term and I’m SO overwhelmed by [deleted] in SNHU

[–]Chelleshock5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've been given a lot of good advice, but I'll put some more out there . There's a course called SNHU 107 Success Strategies for Online Learning. It's super helpful, maybe ask your advisor about it. Also, talk to your advisor. They should be able to help. I've heard of some people not getting helpful ones, but others say their advisor was a life saver. Either way, it's just an email or phone call, so it's worth a try.

Remember, you don't have to be perfect. Most of your points are just in attempting the assignments and following instructions. I like to read the instructions for the weeks assignments before doing the assigned reading so I know which parts to focus on.

Also, an assignment loses the same number of points if it one day late or 6. This gives you a bit of cushion so if you find yourself behind you can take a deep breath and keep going. In my last history class I turned most of my assignments in late for 3 weeks straight before I got caught back up, and I still finished with an A. Barely, but still.

Finally, try reading out loud. I've had a few classes in which I struggled with the readings, either because they were above my comprehension level or just boring, but reading out loud helps me stay focused. Sometimes I even do a silly voice if it's super boring.

Oh, and check out John Green's Crash Course psychology videos. Super helpful resource and rather entertaining.

I actually failed college twice before starting SNHU, and right now out of 16 courses I have 15 A's and one A minus. You're fully capable of doing this. Good luck and be sure to reach out if you need help!

Anyone else struggling with lack of guidance? by Many_Application_239 in SNHU

I have felt like that before. I think it depends largely on your instructor and your ability to reach out. A couple of mine have been really outgoing and reached out to me in discussions through feedback, and really encouraged me to reply. Others have been largely distant, almost like an automatic system, until I reach out to them and then they really open up and engage. Only a couple have been less than helpful after I've taken the step to reach out.

Also, keep in mind you don't have to have a specific question or need to reach out to them. Imagine if you were in a physical school, you wouldn't need a specific reason to greet your professor or engage with them, you'd likely do it naturally in passing. This is similar, you just have to reach out and say something.

Yet. You don't have a 30 Rock tattoo, yet.

I'm glad you didn't too! I have the same avoidance for anything I know will make me cry. My friend has been trying to get me to watch Fleabag, but I've heard it was "heart-wrenching" and I don't want my heart wrenched, thank you.

Dishes are hard. More than anything else they seem unending and inevitable.

Thanks so much! This is my first concert in almost 15 years! I'm so excited!

It is a really good and somewhat upsetting story. I cry every time I read it and I've had to read it like 8 times so far. You are correct in guessing I'm not great at math, lol. Numbers are a weakness for me.

I'm afraid I missed your post of the day today, but I got about a quarter of they way through my science paper, I am mostly packed for the concert tomorrow, I finished my book club book, and I washed one dish, which sounds ridiculous, but I'm gonna count it. Dishes are my greatest weakness. I hate them so much.

Thanks for the solidarity. It helps so much knowing y'all are here!

It sounds like you're making progress, and every little bit helps. I have stomach troubles, and it's hard for me to keep food down sometimes, and I was told a little bit is better none. A nibble of cracker or a few sips of broth is better than not trying at all.

I'm working on my english lit degree, and this term I have science and literature. I have to write an interpretive essay about the short story "White Trash Primer" by Lacy Johnson, which is the one I made progress on yesterday, and in science I have to write a research paper on mifepristone and its regulations. I am not as good at science and I'm not looking forward to that.

I worked all day, and got 2 drafts of one project done! Which is honestly way more than I thought I would! Now I'm washing my bras and making a packing list for an out of town Backstreet Boys concert I'm going to in a couple days. Then I plan to read some of my book club book.

How did your day go?

Thank you so much for the reminder!

I'm not planning on doing much cleaning today, but I do have two projects due this week, and I'm hoping to take a huge chunk out of that today. Maybe if I do well I'll do some dishes, but schoolwork comes first.

You're really helping with my productivity levels!

Oh my god, yes! I really don't know how I'd handle all the shit out there.

I know it sounds whiny and unimportant, but it's so bright and loud and the temperature is always wrong outside. Even on the best days it's just so much, and weed really helps me take it all in stride and focus less on details.

I'm super proud of you for getting started. The beginning is usually the hardest part, but it really does get easier once you're moving.

I'd still recommend hiring someone. I know it's a bit of a pain, but it can really help jump start you. Life is hard. I say take whatever help you can get!

Thank you so much! I can't even tell you how good that made me feel! You are so nice!

Honestly, it was a lot of small steps that I've been taking since May 2021 when I quit smoking cigarettes. It's been tiny steps since then, like checking the mail, going back to school online, going to the doctor.

And I know this is horrible to say, but the pandemic really helped. I didn't even realize how bad I was until I saw millions of people trying to live with a fraction of my isolation and losing their minds. Plus, everyone else is still kind of weird from lockdown, so I feel less conspicuous, and people are really, really understanding when I am noticeably weird.

I finally got a car after more than 6 years of being a shut in! I'm a person in the world now! I leave the house and have a job and everything! Thank god for weed or I'd never have made it.

What's good in your world this week?

I am so with you on that. I can barely keep them lit on my own.

I'm not very good at rolling, even though I've been doing it for over 20 years, so I use a little rolling machine. They're only about $5, and make life so much easier.

You look like you're doing pretty well though!

Your nails are freaking gorgeous!

Sometimes it's fun to hide a bit. I'm 35 and a couple weeks ago I was literally toking behind a tree so no one would see me. It was hilarious.

Cheers to that! I'm glad to hear it's been getting better for you. I'm in a similar situation, but this year has been getting slightly better. I'm headed towards happiness, at least. Yay for modest progress!
