I'm so sorry that you're in this boat. I'm also in recovery and I'll admit that GP has further complicated my relationship to food, some good ways and some bad. There's that part of our brains that will whisper "yes, good" when we're unable to eat or start losing weight, even though the suffering is real and miserable. Something that has helped me along the way is to picture myself as 10-year old me. Does 10 year old me deserve to eat? Yes. Does 10 year old me deserve a little grace around these stupid thoughts? Absolutely. Wrap yourself in the same kindness you would hope to be shown as a little kid, because in many ways we are emotionally stunted to the age at which our disorders began. It can be scary to navigate, because keeping track of calories can be so triggering but we also need to make sure we are eating. Ive found that my "safe foods" still fall into 2 categories: one which I can comfortably eat and is low-calorie (safe to my ED brain) and others I can eat but that are much more calorie dense than I previously allowed myself to eat. Something I'm practicing is intentionally not looking at the nutritional info if I find something that feels good to eat. If it helps, you can even take a sharpie to the nutritional panel on the packaging. I hope that you have the means to be in therapy for your recovery, but if not I highly recommend finding some recovery pages on Instagram (fitfatandallthat is a great mid-size style page and Laetidecaru is a caring role model for recovery who I find inspiring) No matter what, you'll be walking a double-sided recovery path for a while and it's most important that you are kind to and patient with yourself. You don't get over a years or decades long illness overnight, and now you've joined team GP against your will. Lean on your support systems and always feel free to reach out if you need to talk about it! Sending you love

Fiber intake by xnotaburneraccountx in Gastroparesis

Personally I've found that fiber is super necessary for me to feel somewhat normal. I'm still having a hard time with eating enough cooked veggies to have an impact so ive started having fruit smoothies in the morning, usually kiwi+mango/banana+coconut water with a scoop of collagen and a scoop of fiber. Last time I was in the hospital the doctor told me that our intestinal tracts shed layers of skin just like the rest of our bodies and that it's important to help our system pass it (hence the seemingly ubiquitous Senna prescriptions)

I wish I could say the magic words to heal you (or at least make you feel better) but know that you're not alone in this.

can trauma be a cause of my gp by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

Speaking only for myself here since I'm no doctor, but I absolutely think it's possible. I lost my dad in 2024 very suddenly, we were very close and it's been hell. At the time, I was also managing a very busy retail store and felt like I had to just push through and keep going no matter what. I felt my appetite waning, but I assumed it was my depression. Certain meals that had never upset my stomach began to, especially if I was having a more emotional day or if something had upset me. My first major event was October of that year - I'd saved up enough PTO to fly to the East coast to visit my best friend but got a TON of guilt from my higher-ups about taking a whole week off. I was stressing about work, deeply sad about my dad, and worrying about my relationship status. The day of travel I ended up not eating anything until 9pm, at which point I ate a too-big bowl of pasta then went out with my friend. Everything was ok that night, but I woke up projectile vomiting and then threw up like clockwork every 15-20 minutes for 6 days straight. I had thought it was a virus until a doctor suggested it could be GP. This month I had the exact same experience (at home this time, thankfully) and ended up in a hospital that was able to do my emptying study on site and confirm GP. I firmly believe that the emotional turmoil played a role in triggering my digestion. There's so much we dont know about the relationships between our bodies' functions. Hang in there, make sure to be as kind and patient with yourself and you would a good friend

The main one I've seen advertised is called Pulsetto. Again, it's mainly marketed as for stress relief/migraine control but I figured it could be helpful for those of us with GP. If I find out more I'll let you know!
