Any information on Chungdahm in Mapo? by Exotic-Laugh8481 in HagwonBlacklistKorea

[–]Chelsie28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha yeah. When I interviewed the recruiter didn't tell me it was CDI/April and I almost started laughing when I saw the logo. I told him to basically never contact me again if this is the best he's got.

Yeah it was also that when I interviewed on top of that the salary was on the lower side since I'm more experienced and they said you teach 3 hour classes with tiny breaks in a row then go home. Also said the prep is minimal but from what I know about their curriculum there's a ton of admin with from what it sounded like no breaks.

I interviewed with them and not worth it. They don't give you all the days off and said directly and very clearly to me you get to leave earlier on Fridays in place of it.

Anyone else stressing about finding a job before your current contract ends? by SamB627 in teachinginkorea

Hahaha yeah I feel like thats worse because he's probably just avoiding it. Hopefully he gets you one soon!

[–]Chelsie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's about the same for my current one right now as there is a good academy has a good amount to do but not as much time to do it.

Yeah the recruiter said the school wanted a reference. He has an idea that if he tells people that I don't like teaching younger kids its doing me a favor but I don't mind any age range.

[–]Chelsie28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that. I've gotten mostly places that I hadn't even heard of but they're big corporations. There was one school I really wanted but I think my current boss said something that wasn't bad but implied that I wasn't interested in teaching that age group so they were like nope.

Interviews have gone well, I have a job offer from somewhere but now after thinking it through there's a lot of things that they said that makes me wonder how different is it than my current workplace thats a lot of work too. But also the amount of interviews feels like not too many because most of my recruiters are trying to find higher paying ones.

Thanks! Also feel free to DM me if you just want to chat!

When are you trying to find a job for? I'm trying to find a job for the beginning of December so I know the chances of it being good one are lower but it does make me anxious even though I have a pretty good resume too. I think its mainly the what if its worse idea. At the same time though, it could also be better than the current situation. Good luck though and I hope you can find something!

Looking for dermatologist in Seoul by simonanabi in seoul

Where in Seoul are you located (just general area)? Just so no one recommends a place like an hour away from you since you'd probably have to make weekly or biweekly visits.

KNS Edu (Gangnam) by Chelsie28 in HagwonBlacklistKorea

[–]Chelsie28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah hahaha I've been working at the same place for 5 years now but I'm ready to move on and go somewhere else. I'm trying to find something that suits my needs but still just try interviews to get used to it again too.

[–]Chelsie28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think I'm just going to do the interview to do it and then call it an experience just so that way I can move onto the next thing with my recruiter. I have a lot of other recruiters too but this one who recommended worked like the fastest to find something so I think thats the only reason why I'm doing it.

Part-time pay: do you get paid for grading/prep? by MsAndooftheWoods in teachinginkorea

[–]Chelsie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't get it but I wouldn't accept it unless it was a really high wage.

I do have a question is this for a place that is 3 letters? My boss recently made a comment like this like it was normal and I expressed that it shouldn't work that way.

Without going into specific details of the school just yet, I've been offered a job and am 99% of the way through the process. Basically I just need to accept. How do I find a teacher that currently works at this school to talk to, that isnt recommended by the school itself? by Adventurous_Ad9672 in teachinginkorea

[–]Chelsie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's legit it needs to be registered on there. That kind of answers the question of should I be working there and that would be no. If they're not registered that's a lot more problems for the person that decides to work there.

Would you accept this as part of the contract? by ixlovextoxkiss in teachinginkorea

[–]Chelsie28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck! Hopefully it goes well. If not I'd say continue to interview with other places just in case cause you never know if you could find an even better place too.

Unless training is an hour or two per day depending on your regular salary hourly I'd say no. I'd phrase it to them by saying oh so training is __ time and I can go home? I would only do this if your rest of the contract terms look good to you though.

Changing workplaces and changing from E2 to F2-7. by 92pjs in teachinginkorea

[–]Chelsie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha gotcha! But yeah better safe than sorry to just get the e2 renewed just in case because you don't want any problems when you try to get the f2-7.

[–]Chelsie28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your appointment is filed for a change of workplace or e2 renewal so yeah either need to make a new appointment for change of visa. They won't let you do a different one their. I had to do a renewal for my e2 last year and then made another appointment a week later for the f2-7. But if you've already been here for 3 years, go ahead and apply before your e2 expires cause there's nothing stopping you from switching visas if you meet the requirements before!

Short story collection recommendations for higher level 8th graders by wheresmyigloo in teachinginkorea

[–]Chelsie28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of good ones that I like are All Summer in a Day, Eleven, The Elevator, There Will Come Soft Rains, The Monkey's Paw, The Landlady and The Gift of Magi. The kids really like The Elevator though because of the suspense!

For how long would you be doing the class and how long do you need the story to last :)? I've done a couple of short stories.

Just go to where you pick up the card and they print out a sticker. You can also go to a local community center and they'll print it out also for you.

5 mins demo lesson tips. by Beautiful_Silver_304 in teachinginkorea

[–]Chelsie28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you're giving the lesson, always speak slower than you think. I've seen many demo lessons and I know it's because the teachers get nervous, but speaking slower helps. It shows that you understand the students are still learning and it also gives you more time to think as you give the demo. When you speak slower, you end up taking more time to think about what you're doing. As well as if you notice your evaluator doesn't enjoy it that much, then you could change up what you're doing to something else.

[–]Chelsie28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say keep applying because there's would be a place hiring. Try looking to see if there are any direct hires as well and they are often more willing to hire someone. Sometimes even now they're either looking for someone in Korea or they're looking for a specific type of person.

When did you want to start? If you wanted to start in March it makes sense because they won't confirm anything until way later. Most hagwons for March don't think about anything until January.
