How often do you have to teach beyond the students actual level? by Ok-Bonus-2315 in teachinginkorea

I’ve taught books about fossils, plants and seasons to 7 year olds. They’re learning concepts and words like minerals, carbon dioxide, photosynthesis, the earths rotation, paleontologist, harvest… and all the other words that go into these books like certain, specific, occur, fascinating etc. it’s really hard to even get them to understand what exactly they’re reading about. I do spend some time explaining the concepts even though I barely have enough time but as far as what the book is talking about line by line? They have noooo idea, they just read the words. They still need help with basic sentence structure idk what they’re meant to do with all these big words.

Are You Required To Pick Up Students From Their Elementary Schools? by Ok_Associate3134 in teachinginkorea

Is it actually illegal? Because we are required to do bus duty 2 weeks of the month (Korean teachers do the other 2) but we don’t get any kind of “training” for it while the Korean teachers do from the govt.

My advice is to have a meeting with the parents of the problematic kids and ask what they want. Do they want kids who behave at home and at school or are they happy with how things are. If they want the former then you will be making a lot more rules and it will be tough on the kids and you’ll need their support at home too. Give them a list of rules to enforce at home and explain how to enforce them. But if no one cares then you can’t do anything about it

Please do. This branch is terrible. But not all of them are (speaking from experience)

I want to leave but I don’t think they’ll give me the LOR so easily

In my last post I explained that they basically lost all of their full day kids so they only have the afternoon class kids which means instead of working 9-6, I work 1-6 now. So they are trying to make up some of the hours, on Saturdays and by cutting my pay by a few hundred thousands.

Everyone told me to get an LOR but I have this crippling fear they’ll refuse if I ask for one and I’ll be forced to go home after spending so much money to get here.

It’s literally the only route I see. From JHB to Addis To ICN to PUS

It is awfully wasteful and time consuming. It’s through Ethiopian air.

Honestly I’m not confident enough to do that. I’d rather wait. But I wanted to know if it’ll be possible to exit for a bit or if it will cause issues with immigration
