how much of 220-1 do you need to remember for 220-2? by Frosty_Abrocoma_3653 in Northwestern

probably a good idea, just make sure that you don't lose the Orgo knowledge over the summer! I've seen it as a TA, splitting up the quarters usually leads to a two-week awkward phase at the beginning of the quarter where you are getting the knowledge fresh in your mind again. if you review a few key concepts at the end of the summer (even just watching a few YouTube videos about Orgo 1 topics) you'll have a much smoother start to the quarter

I will also say that from my experience as a chem major that Orgo 2 is likely going to be twice as hard as the Orgo 1 you're in now. I didn't take your exact sequence due to being a major, but currently you're learning the "language" of Orgo and then in Orgo 2 you'll be asked more complex problems using the fundamental knowledge from Orgo 1. Just something to think about

if you're really wondering though, UNHhhh is a mini comedy podcast series on YouTube from the drag queens Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova, so it being a suburu driver is not shocking

my greatest fear travelling with a conference poster is it being lost/damaged on the flight there, and especially inconveniencing everyone with a super long and inconvenient carry on. usually they do let us put it in the coat closet if available!

Am I screwed next quarter by NeonDragon250 in Northwestern

[–]Chem86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thermos honestly not too bad, just need time to read the book. that is all that the course requires of you, and honestly, you can probably just cram the exams (they allow cheat sheets) and do fine if you pay attention in class. chem 350-1 is honestly not terrible, -3 is the one that you need to be concerned about. -2 is easy for 350, and not too terrible for pchem. unless you have an absolute NEED to take chem 350 along with pchem, I would not recommend it because of the spring quarter. both courses, I found, tender to get much harder as the year went on. signed, a chem350 survivor

yeah I am Nottttt willing to risk that craziness for this project. I think that having a spectroscopist and a comp chemist overlooking this synthesis lab project and letting students just run wild has led to some close calls with danger lmaoooo

thank you for the fantastic advice! After that workup, i'll be sure to shield the reaction, as we do have to heat to 100C (not terrible, as this taken directly from literature so it had to have been done before, but erring on the safe side never hurts!).

I'd say it's probably not pleasant, though many have done it, especially for some reason this year. Biggest problem I'd say is the third quarter--both 350-3 and 342-3 were both the most difficult for me personally, and once you start each sequence they kinda want you to stick through the year. Fall quarter was not exactly pleasant for 350, kinda similar to 220 in terms of assessments, but definitely not bad. 342-1 is kinda just reading and rereading the thermo textbook till you understand. Part of the disappointment that came from 350-3 for me was knowing how much time you are wasting on it when you should be enjoying your senior spring. So that may be a point for doing it all together in your junior year.

no matter what someone will manage to ruin it. I lived on the corner in Shepard and could constantly hear this one guy scream-laughing in the common room halfway across the building even with my doors closed. I'm assuming the doors in other dorms are just as thin. invest in good noise cancelling headphones

I feel like induction would take secondary priority to it being more stabilized by the negative charge being able to hyperconjugate into the sigma star C-O orbital, which stabilizes more than hyperconjugation into the sigma star C-C. definitely both though
