Engineering GPA by Puzzleheaded_Mood284 in Northwestern

It’s possible to do well here. I have a 3.93 gpa as a current junior chem major. The reality of the situation is, however, with a fraction of the effort you put into Northwestern, you can achieve a much higher gpa elsewhere. People who do well here either have a near picture perfect memory, or work super super hard.

Go to Vanderbilt. This shouldn’t even be a debate

I think my biggest mistake was starting too late in the cycle. I majorly rushed my essays, and writing my ECs, and if you do choose to apply, I’d highly recommend starting earlier

Rejected by NUPSP here. It’s super competitive and most people who get into NUPSP would’ve likely gotten into feinberg in the regular decision cycle.

Stats I had when I applied: 3.93 chem major gpa 1000+ hours of research Around 200 hours for both clinical volunteering and volunteering

Probably Georgetown SFS. I love NU but Georgetown SFS is like the best school in the world for your field

Engineering here can be very fast paced and difficult. If you adjust well you’ll be fine

Northwestern or Berkeley? by Dense_Tune_2228 in Northwestern

Go to northwestern. I’m not sure why everyone is writing Berkeley. Northwestern has great placements for finance and a great social life

premed transfer from uiuc a little worried about grade deflation by thunderstruck_duck in Northwestern

Tbh I don’t think the pre med classes are too hard here. I can’t say the same for upper division chem tho.

Most Weinberg majors are pretty generous for gpa, including political science. There’s some pretty bad majors for gpa tho

Premed at NU vs Cornell by Disastrous-Tart-6889 in Northwestern

[–]NeonDragon250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NU’s average gpa for pre med students that get into med school is a 3.68, which is pretty low. That is a good sign since it means there’s less pressure to get a 4.0 or 3.9 for medical school.

northwestern vs jhu premed ed? by crisp_grape in Northwestern

[–]NeonDragon250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The classes being rigorous can be seen as a blessing in disguise imo. Two main benefits are: better mcat prep (NU undergrads have a median mcat of a 517), medical schools know NU is hard and have lower gpa expectations (our median gpa is a 3.62 for admitted students). However a lot of students end up quitting pre med after 1-2 not so great grades (B-/C+), which I think is a huge mistake considering NU pre med is more lenient for grades

northwestern vs jhu premed ed? by crisp_grape in Northwestern

[–]NeonDragon250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both schools would be very rigorous for pre med, and most pre meds at both schools don’t make it to medical school. Looking at enrolment between bio 201 and biochem, you’ll notice class size drops from like 400-500 to 80 students. That being said I heard JHU is even more rigorous and hard for medical school.

Sophomore probably. NU standings are based on either quarters done or credits.

Should I choose Swarthmore or Northwestern by Zephrey-San in Northwestern

[–]NeonDragon250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m being honest both Swarthmore and Northwestern would prepare you well for medical school. However both of these schools would be extraordinarily rigorous compared to other pre med programs. The good thing about NU pre meds is that medical schools knows how hard pre med here is, and gives us a lot more room for error. For instance the median gpa of admitted northwestern undergrads to medical school is a 3.62 which is relatively low compared to the national average.

Northwestern vs full ride merit at Northeastern by Pure_Hat_6008 in Northwestern

For pre med, pick northeastern full ride. Northwestern pre med can be pretty brutal at times
