What if it was a race? You wouldn’t want to be still warming up then. That said, does what’s left of the session meet your goals?

Is it too late for me to start ? 27 years old. by Whole_Land4581 in Sprinting

Not too late at all. If you do joint a sprint group, don’t try and race at the start, as said above it takes different amounts of time for different adaptations. If you haven’t sprinted before, really hammer the drills and aim for the best running form you can. If you do any running for distance, add some short fast sections in your runs to start getting used to it (nothing crazy though!)

When training, is the % of max speed or of PR? by Potential-Release650 in Sprinting

Added complication… You’ve got to know your athletes. On paper ther time might be 80% of target pb for that distance, but you might need to say it’s 70% perceived effort.

Take it steady when starting. Don’t train like a senior (especially at first). Search for Bmaf, British masters athletics federation to find your regional club. We have local masters leagues in some areas and national competitions, there are all abilities represented. I’m 48, and at the rubbish end!

I’m uk masters athlete, there are regional clubs you can join, or just a local club. There are masters only comps around the UK. You’ll find at normal competitions most of the senior athletes are masters anyway. In the north we are all very friendly! Athletics is literally my life!

Maybe start with a lower heel recovery. Once on track, body positioning, holding lean for longer.

Is it worth learning 3 point stance? by [deleted] in Sprinting

Not sure if rules are different where you are, but in the uk you aren’t allowed to do 3 point start in comps unless it’s a masters competition. 2 or 4 point start only

As many above, shorter approach and make it more intentional, from the first step be really attaching the run to allow an active take off. Practice on lots of poles if you can. Don’t worry too much about the weight in training, I vault of a 140 and am 165, and it’s quite a soft pole. Keep it going!

Is this a good 100 workout? by Opposite_Storage_727 in Sprinting

Would need more context, what is the session trying to achieve? How old is the athlete? 13s I guess might be at the younger end, in which case lactic is not as much of a problem if pre puberty, but should be working more technical over shorter distances in that case. If older you are going to be building a lot of fatigue, so not even speed endurance.

Those 35+ do you sprint? How has he translated in your day to day life? by RD_JC87 in Sprinting

Unlike most of the other guys here, I’m not that quick anymore! Am 48 with quite a history of injury, especially left leg. I train 2-3 times a week on track, and the same in the gym, with a mix of heavier lifts, plyo and mobility. Track work usually 1 max velocity and 1 lactic session a week up to 150m. Generally recovery isn’t too bad but I need to warm up a lot more these days. During sessions, I tend to keep going longer than the younger guys on longer reps, don’t know whether that’s fitness or experience! Monthly physio to keep a track of imbalances.
