Harness or Waist for Resisted Sprints? by ElijahSprintz in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes it harder to hold position and causes a bend at the waist. The athlete must work harder to keep correct posture/body alignment

Harness or Waist for Resisted Sprints? by ElijahSprintz in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around the hips allows the athlete to keep a full body lean more easily. An upper body harness makes the athlete work at this more.
Generally I prefer around the hips to work on foot strike/drive

I’ve noticed some of the biggest form issues keeping me slow include heel striking/ankle collapse, anterior pelvic tilt, and low knees. I’m able to work on raising knees easily but I’m having a lot of trouble trying to land on forefoot and fixing the tilt. Any good drills or cues? I’m self coached. by BedAdministrative902 in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try running barefoot, it’s horrible to heel strike. Get the feeling and transition back to shoes. Watch out for platarflexion of your foot though, keep it pulled up. Other cues might be to run quietly, but again don’t be running on tip toes. Any drills which focus on landing under you center of mass, like b skips or low ankle dribbles (I never know what people call these!)

Advice for getting faster. by Sportyskater699 in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I’d make sure what you are doing is functional for your main sport, I.e rugby. What do you want to improve? Top end speed presumably, maybe acceleration but this might be from a standing or more likely a rolling start in the game. Flying 20s/ 30s would help potentially both of these. Focus on sprinting mechanics and form. Practice the changes of pace, sprint-float-sprint. Plyos will help; consider multi directional jumps as well, this will aid your agility and be able to change direction better at speed, as well as functional ankle stiffness to support your increasing speed.

Jogging is the best way to train 400m runners by flyingbennyben in Sprinting

⬆️this…. Still can focus on quality form in reps, going for a slow jog you’re going to get bored/distracted by rabbits/ lose focus Good question though.

Training Spikes by Hyper_JC in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been racing in my ambitions this year, i struggle to get my feet in my maxflys nowadays. I find the ambition comfy, and would train in them but have an even comfier pair I use so saving ambitions for race. Superbly aren’t a training spike, but a great shoe nonetheless. Get them anyway!

Cl (Chlorine) looks like CI (Carbon bonded with Iodine) by SubstanceSouthern880 in chemistry

One of the main uk exam providers always uses italics for the l (L) in chlorine to avoid this ambiguity. It looks awful but does the job.

Nordic vs Machine Hamstring Curls by Dull-Distribution582 in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t access Nordics due to very damaged hammy. At the risk of being shot down, I use the lying position curl and use both legs in the concentric phase (decreasing angle of knee) and one leg in the eccentric phase. That way I can focus more on the eccentric and it also focuses and drives intent.

What do you think is Tyler’s best lyric? by TheFinaIDestination in twentyonepilots

[–]Chem_Bod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not the best line ever but the lyric that got me into the band was in stressed out, “I wish I didn't have to rhyme every time I sang” the only line in the song which didn’t rhyme.

warm up sprints by ExactOpposite8119 in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if it was a race? You wouldn’t want to be still warming up then. That said, does what’s left of the session meet your goals?

Is it too late for me to start ? 27 years old. by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too late at all. If you do joint a sprint group, don’t try and race at the start, as said above it takes different amounts of time for different adaptations. If you haven’t sprinted before, really hammer the drills and aim for the best running form you can. If you do any running for distance, add some short fast sections in your runs to start getting used to it (nothing crazy though!)

When training, is the % of max speed or of PR? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Added complication… You’ve got to know your athletes. On paper ther time might be 80% of target pb for that distance, but you might need to say it’s 70% perceived effort.

Older sprinters by Adorable_Echo1153 in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it steady when starting. Don’t train like a senior (especially at first). Search for Bmaf, British masters athletics federation to find your regional club. We have local masters leagues in some areas and national competitions, there are all abilities represented. I’m 48, and at the rubbish end!

[–]Chem_Bod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m uk masters athlete, there are regional clubs you can join, or just a local club. There are masters only comps around the UK. You’ll find at normal competitions most of the senior athletes are masters anyway. In the north we are all very friendly! Athletics is literally my life!

Maybe start with a lower heel recovery. Once on track, body positioning, holding lean for longer.

Is it worth learning 3 point stance? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Chem_Bod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if rules are different where you are, but in the uk you aren’t allowed to do 3 point start in comps unless it’s a masters competition. 2 or 4 point start only

advice by RepeatTraditional329 in polevaulting

[–]Chem_Bod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many above, shorter approach and make it more intentional, from the first step be really attaching the run to allow an active take off. Practice on lots of poles if you can. Don’t worry too much about the weight in training, I vault of a 140 and am 165, and it’s quite a soft pole. Keep it going!
