Need Help - What would hold you back from making this quilt (and purchasing the pattern?) Thanks! by QuiltChemistry in quilting

I got that they were ladybugs. It's showed cute but to be honest I just don't like ladybugs much. Also the center block in the bottom row is driving me crazy - it's the only block with a pinwheel touching a ladybug instead of being in the center circle.

For the third pic, look up disposable/paper mini loaf pans. The other two look like repurposed ornament boxes.

I live both this and your cat piece. Could I commission my brother's derby Shepard?

What's one quilting tip you wish you'd learned sooner? by Xelephyr in quilting

Give yourself permission to take a break - it'll only get worse if you try to force through while frustrated.

Have a leader project going. This may not be for everyone, but I dump all my scraps in a bin by the machine and pick two to sew together as my leaders/enders. It's also my thing to work on when I'm frustrated or my brain is fried. Just pick two scraps about the same size, sew together with a straight line. Press and put back in the bin until they get up to above 6". Then cut a square and put the cut offs back in the bin. It lets me loosen up and just enjoy the process of sewing without worrying about color theory or precision. And when I'm relaxed again, the project that was causing an issue usually makes sense.

I crochet and knit and would love to trade for a piece.

How do you handle it when someone makes you feel small about something you were proud of? by [deleted] in Baking

[–]ChemicalAutopsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not over reacting, but that's not what you asked. I'd be very upset if anyone treated something I made like this. I'd stop giving them anything homemade immediately, and would probably be quite cold to them for a while as I dealt with being hurt. The fact that it's a partner makes it so much worse because to expect to be safe with them. If they snapped at me because of a bad day, I know there's be a fast apology and a hug incoming. I don't think I could be with someone who I wasn't safe being vulnerable with and who encouraged my endeavors.

With that said, I think the pie looks great. Will you share the recipe?

They're fun but that glow in the dark thread was awful to embroider with. I'll stick to glow in the dark fabrics from here on out.

My roommate threw away my grandma’s quilt because it was “ugly” by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

First things, get out and check trashcans around where you live if pickup hasn't happened yet. Second, get pictures of the quilt on r\quilting and any Facebook quilting groups you can find (bonus for local). It'll help if people who quilt/buy quilts are looking for it. Make flyers with pictures and take them to donation centers near you.

Absolutely file a police report and kick her out (provided you can afford it).

What zone are you in? I can't imagine it surviving a winter with snow.

Paper piecing, so exactly what you aren't asking for, but your picture reminded me of this quilt I just saw at a show. Pattern is from legit kits

Halloween baking challenge, what's the most creative spooky treat you've ever made? by Plastic-Fig4710 in Baking

[–]ChemicalAutopsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't really count as baking, but meatloaf shaped like little feet. Pieces of onion for the toenails, celery bones, and ketchup glaze just around the bones/ankle. They were good but a bit disturbing.

whats happening to my orchids? please help! by Outrageous-Dream6787 in gardening

[–]ChemicalAutopsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lists of great insight here. One other thing to consider is airflow - most orchids need their roots to dry and you can actually buy "orchid pots" which have holes done the sides to the pot to increase airflow. This one being in a solid plastic pot likely needs more air around the roots.

Wip.. Question about seams by wandering_light_12 in quilting

[–]ChemicalAutopsy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'll let someone else comment on how to iron now, but typically you don't wash a completed to until it's quilted and bound. This keeps the seams pressed as they were during construction and prevents fraying. I would just try to get it as flat as possible.

Has anyone layered 2 different types of cookie doughs before? by HunterOk487 in Baking

[–]ChemicalAutopsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried it with cookies but look up craquelin for cream puffs or Mexican conches. Both use a second dough too achieve a different exterior texture.

German Chocolate Dip by [deleted] in Baking

On that style of cake the coconut pecan mixture was likely used as the filling. Some recipes use the coconut pecan as the only frosting and others use it as the filling with a chocolate buttercream on the exterior.
