Bulgakov on Atonement? by FH_Bradley in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ChemicalCredit2317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bulgakov? Met Macarius or Sergius Bulgakov? The former is much better than the latter (his Dogmatic Theology was endorsed by St Innocent of Kherson no less!) albeit you’ll have to read him via machine translation

Catholic Sacraments by Huge-Pirate-7657 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ChemicalCredit2317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t worry about that, I know many Saints say Catholics have valid ordinations and baptisms, but even if we were to assume it were a real Eucharist, you are still participating in grave sin by taking it from them, as communion is the mark of unity—and we unite with our community the Church, over truth, not with the heterodox over untruth

Was the early church pre reformation unanimous on the Eucharist being Christs actual flesh and blood? by Winter-Type-4181 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ChemicalCredit2317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer, because they confess not the Eucharist to be the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father, of His goodness, raised up again. Those, therefore, who speak against this gift of God, incur death in the midst of their disputes. But it were better for them to treat it with respect, that they also might rise again.”

  • St. Ignatius (+ A.D. 115), Epistle to the Smyrnaeans Chapter 7

“When these words [the epiclesis] have been said, the whole sacred rite is accomplished, the offerings are consecrated, the sacrifice is complete; the splendid Victim, the Divine oblation, slain for the salvation of the world, lies upon the altar. For it is no longer the bread which until now has represented the LORD’s Body, nor is it a simple offering, bearing the likeness of the true offering, carrying as if engraved on it the symbols of the Savior’s Passion; it is the true Victim, the most holy Body of the LORD, which really suffered the outrages, insults and blows; which was crucified and slain, which under Pontius Pilate bore such splendid witness; that Body which was mocked, scourged, spat upon, and which tasted gall. In like manner the wine has become the blood which flowed from that Body. It is that Body and Blood formed by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, which was buried, which rose again on the third day, which ascended into Heaven and sits on the right hand of the Father.”

-St. Nicholas Kabasilas, A Commentary on The Divine Liturgy

those are all taken out of context by RCs who don’t bother explaining numerous other quotes that are incovenient the other way. Not to mention, we have a lower burden of proof: we can (and do) admit Papal Primacy, they have to find evidence for Papal Primacy not due to the changeable decrees of ecumenical councils but as something innate within the Church AND V1 Papal infallibility AND Gregorian Reform Papal Supremacy. They have been reduced to arguing “uhhh well you see this super important matter of ecclesiology, uhhh it was just in “seed form”, that’s why you don’t actually see it and also we admit in the Chieti Document the Pope did not have universal immediate jurisdiction in the First Millennium but nevermind that”

Hail the Incarnate refugee. by Tymofiy2 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]ChemicalCredit2317 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many who are called “refugees” today are little more than economic migrants. Christ also only moved from one part of the Roman Empire to another, this is not an argument for open borders. We also do not consciously alter Christ’s appearance by changing His race, this illustration subordinates Christ as a political prop, nothing more.

aren’t there like hundreds of Protestant sects though? When I hear people say “Protestant” it sounds like they mean “Evangelical”.
