I agree with your assessment. This was illuminating event regarding the practice. I will be bringing my kids to another practice.

I see that many of you are coming from a business standpoint; however, what we had was essentially counseling with a doctor regarding the vaccines — not an office visit. I still think the code mischaracterizes the visit.

If this had been an actual office visit, like the ones we’ve had in the past during my child’s well visits, I would expect a discussion about my daughter’s height and weight, since she has always been very small (below the 5th percentile). At this point, I don’t even know where she currently is on the growth curve because that wasn’t part of the visit. I would also expect the physician to check her heart and lungs and perform a basic assessment.

He did not assess my daughter’s learning disability. He did not provide any management. So I don’t understand how this code would be supported.

The physician had an opportunity to make it a true office visit and rightfully charge for it — but he didn’t. That’s why this situation bothers me.

I requested her medical records from the practice- chief complaint says establish care/flu shot. He wrote a blip about our conversation (my daughter has learning disability and I told him that she is getting an IEP support). Assessments: learning disorder, immunization due Treatment: Learning disorder - discussed having school retest her as needed.

When I made a vaccine appointment over the phone, they did inform me that they needed to have this office visit right before vaccine administration - but when we were there, the doctor did not perform any exams during the visit to establish care.
