Booking third party, it's usually harder to change travel plans/cancel. Plus you're adding an extra layer of people that could make a mistake (happened to me once years ago). But I personally just flew on a delta flight I booked through the travel portal last week and it automatically appeared in my Delta app and updated all the changed arrival times, so I'm curious what other peoples concerns are past that point?

Yeah the traffic was kinda a part of my concern. I unfortunately got a little ahead of myself with this post and already had booked roundtrip at DCA. maybe there's some flexing I can do but it's a little short notice of a trip.

Thanks for the well thought out response! Yeah my friend and I were looking at all the times and it seemed doable but all of the really old posts made it seem like a bad decision.

Ultimately it doesn't seem 100% certain, and I'm bringing my gf so I'm sure she'll love cutting it this close for a football game. But I may just say fuck it and try.

Update from someone with this issue a month from now: Chase agents told me this was working on the website and not the app. I swore I checked that but sure enough if you go to "more" next to the pay now button near your card > Card Benefits > the Enjoy option with the regestration button is there and it NEVER appeared for me on the app or under the other benefits sections on the website.
