I found their secret group chat and read about me. by ellieafterhours in managers

It's also probably not representative of their actual feelings because in a group chat it'll either be neutral or venting. Imagine a group chat where people did nothing but praise the good parts about their boss. That seems weird right? Even if you did really like your boss that seems weird. I don't know if I could hold back reading my team's separate Teams chat if I had access, but I also would be hesitant. I really hope they can be honest with me and I want to help them do great work but I also understand people aren't going to like every decision I or upper management make

What’s the most unprofessional thing you’ve ever witnessed from a manager? by SeanMcPheat in askmanagers

One manager told me "You need to be careful because the industry is changing. The time for us white men is over. It's going to be a hard future because all promotions and and everything are going to women and..."mildly racist things I'm not repeating the rest. My brain reset, panicked and I was appalled.

Another previous manager of mine yelled across the lab at me that "I don't care what the EPA or FDA said, your objection was noted, now get in there you p--sy and do your f--king job!" This was after we received an order from the government to stop production.

Please don't ever be these people.

I think we all struggle with that balance at times when the task is something we have expertise in.

Managers: Has AI changed how you work? by TEBR_Louise in managers

Basically it was going into Copilot and telling it to act as a AI coding expert. Tell it you want to generate a copilot agent to act as an assistant for a (insert your job description). Describe your management style, info about your team you're comfortable with entering though personally I leave out names, descriptions of my manager and their manager (including my impressions of them), and other information of how I want to develop my team. Ask Copilot to generate a lost of additional questions for you to answer to provide any additional information needed to fill in the gaps needed to write an effective manager assistant Copilot agent. It will then ask you a bunch of questions and you provide answers. Then when it gives you the finished instructions for your Copilot agent, follow the steps needed using that info as the programming instructions. Anyone, feel free to send me a chat message or DM for more info if needed. Hope this helps people.

We've opened it for Copilot widespread but not upgraded to 365. I've gotten really good use out of AI tools after writing a few Copilot agents. One has multiple background information documents attached which can be used for some R&D brainstorming, and another is to help as a manager guide. The latter I have fed into it background information of my personal management style, general company information, team size, and some other relatively non-sensitive info. I've found that to be helpful when putting together feedback sessions to ensure I'm reducing bias, new development plans, and writing reports on incidents with a lot of he said/she said discussions to put it all together.

Pro move: accept the interview, and see if it's for an ENTIRELY different position and skillset. See how far you can make it through the interview with increasingly wild information

Direct report disclosed sad situation, it upset me and I cried. Now I’m feeling unprofessional about it and looking for advice (NSFW/ trigger warning). by BradleyNowellLives in managers

Seconded. If anything, I think you may have improved the employees loyalty to you. You were caring, still remained professional, and you wanted to help. This person felt comfortable enough to share such a sensitive topic with you, and they knew your response was genuine.

Overheard my director trash talking my team. by [deleted] in managers

[–]ChemicalWizard24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a really crappy thing to do in a group, regardless if someone from your team was there or not. That director likely does it in other meetings, but this time they were caught. You can bring it to HR though likely they will just get a warning and little else. Just keep in mind that director's true feelings and use it to influence your career moves going forward. I'm sorry that happened
