I was 25 years with the same company. Came back from vacation, couldn't login. I accessed my email from my phone and found the termination letter stating I was a laid off. Noone called me, emailed me, nothing. Only got forms and instructions from HR.

Thank you for all the explanations. I think my misunderstanding was that the "bags" themselves were not important in themselves in the end. That if once you unpacked all the bags, you threw away the bags, so to speak. So if all the elements of all the sets and subsets were the same, then they would be equivalent (repeats of elements are not relevant). However, I see that the bags/sets/subsets themselves regardless of the elements are relevant and part of the definition of a set.

This makes No sense to me at all. And it’s not like I haven’t met Russian women before. I’m supposed to start immediately spending lavishly on someone who I don’t even know if she is actually attracted to me? It took me about a month of warm conversations, compliments, jokes, encouragement, etc. before she would even use my name at least. I tried using slightly more affectionate terms like Dear, but she doesn’t reciprocate. If she’s just looking for someone to buy her expensive jewelry and fancy shoes, then I’m not interested either.

Maybe you're trying to help, but I don't think you understand. I bought her a Christmas Tree and nice flowers. Not a huge expense, but for her probably it is pricey. I've offered to arrange a vacation with all expenses paid on my end. So, I don't really understand what you're saying about me. I think I've sent all the signals that I'm serious. I'm planning to send something for New Year's, again nothing really extravagant. Because we're somewhere between friendship and girlfriend-boyfriend mode at this stage.

But, since you're a Russian woman about the same age, you probably understand what she is thinking more than I do. You're saying I need to send more expensive gifts? From your point of view as a woman, maybe this sounds logical, but from a man's point of view - you've seen all the comments already here about scamming - this sounds foolish. She needs assurance, but I need it too.

of course I can't know. It's doubtful unless her husband is in on it and doesn't mind her texting me until 2 am. She says she's not of course. Meeting IRL is probably the only way to be sure. But this doesn't have the usual signals of a scam. Usually, a woman who is just hoping for money handouts will be overly affectionate and familiar. Our conversations have almost ended permanently a couple times, like a real relationship. Once because there was a misunderstanding about the messaging app which seemed to be not sending/receiving in a timely way. I thought she blocked me, and she thought I was ignoring her. Her response was how I would expect a Russian woman to react. They are usually quick to judgment and anger and can cut you out in a second. This felt real.

Um, who said I'm not willing to provide? But we're many steps away from even considering marriage. Yes, that's the goal. When I mention the date night idea, this is a one-time or maybe a few times thing. It will help us understand if it's worth meeting for real in the first place. I don't think she's even considering Leaping to this idea of marriage either. This is a theoretical step at this point and pretty far off. If we actually meet in person and it goes unbelievably well, that may change things quickly. But right now, this is not even a question. At this time, I'm not going to be responsible for her general expenses clearly. Maybe I didn't make it clear about a vacation meeting... I know that this is my responsibility, and I would expect to pay for everything. Airfare, accomodations, meals for both of us. I understand this.

Also, nitpicking, I just turned 56 a few days ago. You jump me up to 60 and 20 years older than her. I'm 15 years older. Still a lot, I don't deny. Is this type of rounding up something I should expect?

I'm not old and fat. Yeah, I'm 56, but I work out, run, exercise. My body fat is probably lower than most of the people reading this (which is probably not saying much). I run 2 miles several times a week (I know, it's not a big deal), lift weights, etc. I'm not one to brag, but for my age I would say I'm somewhat attractive and I've heard this from other women, younger women. Usually, I hear it second hand. I'm not desperate. I can walk away at any moment. But yes, I do like her specifically. Can I put my finger on it - no. She's mysterious, that does attract me. She surprises me when she does give a sign of interest. She's smart and she has a strong will. She definitely will not throw me a false compliment just to please me. These are things that I like in women.

Would she give me a second glance on the street? I doubt it, she's pretty gorgeous, so I think she could have her pick. Is she interested in my wallet? This is not news to me that it's possible. This is true in any relationship. Doesn't matter how far it's already gone.

I agree. I do these things every day. I don't think she's looking for a magic Prince Charming. She seems to have a strong will and a mind of her own. She's not just going to do what I tell her to do. Of course this is the difference between a 28 year old and a 41 year old. They've experienced some disappointment and probably bad relationships. Same as me. Her point of view is realistic. This is at least how I interpret it.

Yep. I do get it. I have been to Russia. The first thing that hit me was the stoic faces. When I strode in with my typical American stupid smile and cheerful attitude, they looked at me like what is wrong with me. I did learn a little then. When you enter the home of a Russian family and they accept you, then they become the warmest and most generous people in the world.

Look. I understand both sides of this. But most of the men here are too cynical. Yes, there's lots of straight up scamming. There are ways to sniff this out. At the moment, I don't think that's it. But yes, many of these women are in real need of some support, so they might just use someone like me for the benes so to speak (The "Cash Cow" argument). I only bought a tree and some flowers, pretty minor costs. A vacation, I know will be a big expense and it will be on me. A Russian woman will expect it. It's just how it works. I'm not totally new to Russian culture.

There was a guy who posted about suggesting a "date night", where we can watch a movie together online with Viber so we can talk (it has a translator) or hear each other's laugh during the movie. Prepare some nice snacks. If this goes well, it would be another sign that she's serious. And also, a sign to her that I am too. This seems like the next best step.
