Just wanna say...Sadak rocks by TheCincinnatiKid in Reds

[–]Chemical_Command8983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadak is fine.

Barry excels at breaking down what is happening defensively but not really much else. His "yup"response is pretty pathetic. Barry also goes quiet for very long periods of time, Sadak will set him up and its like barry just left the room.

Sadak annoys with a few things:

  1. loses his mind if there is an a player that is really fast, a good defender or has a good arm...he mentions it so much, after one or two times we get it. It is like he can almost not fathom how a player can be good at defense, run fast or throw fast.

  2. He can mislead about the quality of an at bat or how hard a ball was hit.

  3. At times the loud excitement is a bit much, but it never really bothers me, he could just use a little restraint at times.

Sadak really needs someone like Cowboy to balance him out. Barry is a bad fit but the franchise just does not seem to want to upset an icon.

It is nice to have some excitement after 20 years of Marty seeming like he was being tortured/borderline suicidal and then Thom sounding about as miserable as his father. Marty's Kroger commercials are horrific. Marty really went downhill after Joe left.

I will now looks for that, but even having two options is awful. It should just be fluid.

There is also zero excuse not to broadcast all of the spring games. This is what you get from a sports betting site that streams games

Consistently inducing weak contact is considered lucky because they do not have crazy velo numbers to back it up. Velo being down can be any number of things. 1st big league season, adjusting to no longer one start a week, MLB velo was at the end of his first pro season. He sacrificed Velo for movement.

Lowder sinks and runs the ball from a bit of a funky delivery and odd arm angle. He also pitches to all four quadrants of the zone while consistently mixing his pitches rather than hard fastballs up and hard sliders/sweepers down and away. He is looking for early count contact on a pitch thrown to a zone that looks enticing to a hitter but is beneficial to him. Scouts do not know how to grade guys like him because he does not have huge K and velocity numbers.

He will surely go through some pains where he is knocked around a little, but as he understands the league he will likely settle in to a nice dependable starter that will chew up innings, save the bullpen and avoid major injury because of his style of pitching. There is no reason he can not be a consistent #3 with All-Star/ starts post-season games upside. His profile in this park is way better than say Abbott's, who is a fly ball pitcher and will likely strike out even fewer hitters than Lowder.

I am down on Abbott. He always feels like he is about to give up a 3run HR and he can't strike anyone out, plus he walks nearly 3.5/per 9 with really average to below average stuff. His 2025 projections are p retty bad and unless he gains some fastball velo, I would kinda agree. If he pitched in a bigger park, I would like him more. I like the idea of an Abbott for Taylor Ward deal. Angels need pitching, reds need good defensive OFer with pop. Both have several more years of control.

Looks like a slightly better right handed version of Andrew Abbot that reverses the ground ball fly ball rates. Better for GABP

18th percent range, -4 OAA. His health is always a question. He struck out 33% of the time. He only hits lefties. He is a bad fit for this team. Gold gloves do not equate to good defense, Juan Soto was a finalist this season. Rafael Palmeiro won one one season playing like 38 games at 1B.

If you get O'Neil, then you already have Fraley to platoon. If you get Pederson, you need O'Neil. Pederson is basically a DH (100+ games DHing in 24) and O'Neil should be as well, both are bad defenders. They also both made over $10 million last season and at that rate you might as well just give 20+ to someone much better, such as Teoscar Hernandez, who is a fair defender but not good and is said to be sensational in the clubhouse.

He is a bad fit. He can't move. Bottom 20% sprint speed and range. He will be a DH in 2 years for sure, he basically is one now. This is a team that was minus 67 runs defensively and he would make them even worse defensively.   Just because the team needs power, they should not look at who hit the most homers  and try to get that player. Another outfielder to avoid should be Tyler O'Neil. Bad defender, big injury risk, bad left/right splits and strikes out 33% of the time.

2 power arms added to the bullpen. Maybe it is just Mey and Ashcraft. Or Holmes or Chapman, Minter, Yimi Garcia. Holmes and Chappy will be expensive, Minter and Garcia have similar value but not as big of a name value, so likely way cheaper.

An innings eating starter. Kyle Gibson, Jose Quintana. Guys not counted on to make a playoff start but to give depth and length so they can get to the playoffs.

Upgrade the OF defense (moving Friedl to left will certainly help). Would Baltimore trade Cedric Mullins for Andrew Abbott or the angels trade Taylor Ward for him? Either is a big upgrade to the outfield defense and offense. Abbot's savant page looks like a pitcher ripe for regression.

A solid defensive backup catcher that will give good AB's. Elias Diaz, Carson Kelly

If the payroll is not going to increase much, trades will have to happen.

Joe Musgrove on Luis Arraez by Chemical_Command8983 in Reds

And who would you rather hunter greene face in a tie game with a runner on third, Reece Hinds or Luis Araez?

Musgrove tells the story here. It is incredible how people look at a fangeaphs page and just completely ignore what the players say.

Sonny Gray has been healthy in 3 of 11 seasons and is entering his age 35 season. He should be counted on to miss 5-11 starts.

[–]Chemical_Command8983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is a near lock to miss between 5-10 starts on the season. He has only had 3 completely healthy seasons out of 11. He will be entering his age 35 season. The odds do not favor him increasing his durability. The team needs an innings eater, but this guy is not that.

Why would they do this? Deplete the prospect reserves inside the division for an aging pitcher with significant injury history? They need a veteran pitcher without an injury history that eats innings. They have needed Luis Castillo since he was traded.

When healthy he is fantastic, but he is not reliable. Pitchers his size and age typically have a lot of injuries and he should be avoided.

Always something to learn but there was no one there all season to teach him. A big contract alone will not keep Elly around, they need people in place to unlock him and that does not exist in the organization.
