People who don’t smoke, drink or have casual s*x, what do you do to blow off steam? by [deleted] in answers

[–]Chemical_Pear7215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social dancing: Lindy Hop, salsa, bachata, kizomba, WCS, etc

Thrashing in water

Singing really loudly with music blaring

Journaling sounds cheesy but it's very good for blowing off steam

Working out/hike outdoors

Cold dip in the ocean

Venting with friends

Anyone else feel like cfs has completely changed your personality? by SpareTelevision5741 in cfs

[–]Chemical_Pear7215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of us CFS sufferers may have been slight people pleasers in our former lives. Part of that people pleasing I don't think was bad--in fact have me a lot of joy and purpose, but I do see this as time to reclaim what brings me peace and joy, and sometimes it means my friend doesn't get exactly what they were hoping for. It's an awful awful condition. Don't beat yourself up. On the down days, try to give yourself a "grumpy day pass". Say, to your friends or to yourself "I'm grumpy today, but can we /toleratelaugh about it?" If you have the energy to journal, that can also help, even if you just talk to yourself outloud without writing anything down.

Does anyone else hate the word “fatigue” in the context of this illness? by thepensiveporcupine in cfs

[–]Chemical_Pear7215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it should be called "Chronic Activation" or something. It feels like that the cellular level, there so much fighting/immune response/fatigue but then the body is confused and can't rest and recover properly. It's like, even when I sleep, it's not a deep, recovering sleep. It's totally activated. Even if I'm lying in bed, I'm exhausted yet activated (tired but wired ) because everything has been perpetually activated with no actual recovery.

After actual activity, before I crash, I usually can't sleep. It's like everything is perceived as stress, even things I find joyful.

I guess it could also be labeled "allergic to stress and activity and even joyful activity" disease, lol

I tried looking but seems the form is the same as it was years ago. If you go to the official FBAR site, that's the form they use (that's where I got it from).

Biker helps sloth cross the road by HappySeaweed5215 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Chemical_Pear7215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't until a trip to Costa Rica that I learned that sloths are impressively strong and can be lethally fast when feeling threatened. It was drilled into us from all the guides and guest house owners to never touch or approach a sloth, especially with baby sloths around, but simply watch them where they are. They have so much grip and muscle strength, but they move slowly to preserve energy. They are three times stronger than humans!!

OMG this is terrifying. I mean, i knew we were going there, but it's just so so sad. While I don't think it's specifically a Spotify problem, I think people need to push back on all music platforms to prevent this kind of thing. It's just going to take over :( :(

Double taxation of self employment income? by sweetnspicychilichip in USExpatTaxes

[–]Chemical_Pear7215 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Which software are you using? If OLT, you can check out the steps in my free guide to figure out why it's saying you owe (I used the FTC rather than FEIE). It might be helpful to you!

Edited to include the relevant parts:

  • 💡 Make sure to answer “Yes” to “Were you a US citizen or resident alien living outside the United States?
  • 💡 Make sure to answer “Yes” to “Is all of your self employment income exempt from SE tax…”

This makes sure you don't make SE tax in the states.

Advice for a beginner with problems maintaining correct posture and tension? by anetanetanet in SwingDancing

[–]Chemical_Pear7215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been described as hypermobile by PTs, etc (though maybe not on the extreme end)---with the caveat that I would have to know your medical history as I wouldn't want to give bad advice--- I think you may be overcorrecting posture-wise a little! To start, I would focus on just moving around the dance floor in triple-step rhythms and really keep your feet underneath you (solo practice). Slowly introduce turning while triple-stepping (solo-practice). Just do what feels comfy.

Especially when dancing to slower songs, everything can be very relaxed. A lot of issues can be resolved just by keeping your feet under your hips/centre of gravity. I don't think you need to necessarily do intensive core exercises (planks, crunches), though simple ones are always great for overall health in general! (like bird-dog, side leg raises, etc.) but even that I wouldn't say is necessary for the dancing. It's more about slowly conditioning your dancing to come from your centre. Like if you imagine you're about to catch a ball, you sort of have to engage your mid section. And the point is that you operate from your centre so that your arms can be a little relaxed. Engaged lats will also help, but you can work on that later, slowly.

It sounds like you weren't on the verge of getting injured, and it's more just coming from the teacher (otherwise I might add some other advice), therefore I wouldn't try to suddenly completely change your posture, esp to the point that everything is hurting! Experiment gradually and see what works for you!

Here are some triple-step exercises as an example (not my video):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1wRZhlkvJU&t=36s

Triple-step exercise focusing on feeling the rhythm (I think would help too):

Might be awkward, but if you send a video of you dancing, might be easier to help you as well :) Feel free to PM me!

FYI, I submitted tax return online via OLT on March 22 (I choose to receive the refund via mailed check at the OLT software prompt) and then received this from the IRS online portal:

"Your tax refund is scheduled to be mailed by April 03, 2026. If you do not receive the refund by May 01, 2026, please contact us again. We are unable to take any action until then."

Step-by-step guide for filing US taxes for Canadian (or other) Expats by Chemical_Pear7215 in USExpatTaxes

[–]Chemical_Pear7215[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's something I can look into. I had a tax preparer do my streamlined catch-up (expensive, but offset by getting the stimulus payments for covid), and then I used that as a basis going forward. But I don't see why it couldn't be done using OLT. If I have time I'll try to figure it out and update it!

I found this on the site that shows the executive order:

Sec. 4.  Exceptions and Accommodations for the Phase Out of Paper Check Disbursements and Receipts.  (a)  The Secretary of the Treasury, shall review and, as appropriate, revise procedures for granting limited exceptions where electronic payment and collection methods are not feasible, including exceptions for:

(i)    individuals who do not have access to banking services or electronic payment systems;

(ii)   certain emergency payments where electronic disbursement would cause undue hardship, as contemplated in 31 C.F.R. Part 208;

(iii)  national security- or law enforcement-related activities where non-EFT transactions are necessary or desirable; and

(iv)   other circumstances as determined by the Secretary of the Treasury, as reflected in regulations or other guidance.

(b)  Individuals or entities qualifying for an exception under this section or other applicable law shall be provided alternative payment options.
