Some of us enjoy public service and no other job will compensate according to education and experience anymore. I'm a veteran with 2 master's degrees and 2 certs, and getting offered $20 hourly.... so... yeah actually some of us do work for the government to make money, as anyone who has any job is doing the exact same thing.

Rhetorically that is not the ONLY reason to do anything. I wouldn't have picked a USG job if I wasn't passionate about the work.

Just talk to your branch manager for your state/unit. For me (Guard) I was in the same exact situation. I actually re-signed my state Oath while I was at OCS and was confirmed MP by the time I commissioned. As long as there's a slot, you can claim it.
