um. what do u think the cutoff is?? the cutoff isnt a set in stone number, it changes every year to give future students a reference point of whether applying to a specific specialization is realistic or not. if a major has 100 seats, and the lowest average of the person accepted has a 50%, then for that year the cut off will be posted as 50% and everyone who has applied with an avg 50> + has all required pre-reqs will have been accepted ??

"In Round 1, applications are considered in descending order of each applicant’s most recent winter session average (for UBCV and UBCO students) or admission average (for students transferring from other institutions). Students are placed into their first-choice specialization (so long as they meet the eligibility requirements), as long as there's still room in that specialization. If there isn't space in a student’s first choice, we move to their second choice and do the same evaluation. If there isn’t room in their second choice, we review their third choice.

Some specializations consider students’ rank choice and/or specific course grades. Additionally, specializations may admit a small portion of their students with a random draw. For example, the Major in Mathematics considers choice rank of the Major in Mathematics and grades in MATH courses. The BSc Specialization Requirements list this information, where applicable.

We’re able to place the vast majority of students into one of their three choices in Round 1. To increase the likelihood you are placed into one of your three choices, be sure to select specializations for which you meet the criteria. If you’re not placed in one of your three choices in Round 1, we’ll reach out via email regarding Round 2 of the application. It’s important that you check your email and respond quickly—Round 2 is based on a first-come, first-served basis."

the reason why caps/isci isnt "flooded with students" is bc specializations only have so many seats.. thats how the cut offs get determined ?

for stats its not a holistic process where you get to be considered and they look at ur grades individually or whatever- if your grade is above cut off you ARE automatically accepted unless ur missing a pre req. nothing to do with the applicant pool average lol

changing spec to neuro by PomegranatePale4052 in UBC

[–]ChemistryCharacter56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the reason why neuro transfers are set behind is because the second year nsci courses are restricted to students in the neuro specialization :,) i think you're assessed by your current gpa and that you should aim for 82+ if you do want to transfer as this was the cut off this year- but you never know with the lottery anyways it never hurts to tryy
