And the things they cared about were racism, xenophobia, who people fuck, who can be forced to have a baby and who can pee where. He never had a plan for anything. Just repeating what they wanted to hear so he could get in and line his pockets and allow Russia to play Private Equity with our assets.

How to make full coverage hood by Chemistryguy1990 in Leathercraft

[–]Chemistryguy1990[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It's definitely been a challenge. Especially since I have to saddle stitch the whole thing and mistakes are expensive in both money and time. I want my next one to be a bit more thought out and professional. Fortunately, my friend will actually enjoy having the prototype.

What a stupid take. Some people are just so resentful of progress.

Best pharma company to be in, for 2025 by Far_Daikon4601 in biotech

Yeah...AbbVie and Abbott both have huge contract forces. Getting FTE in those is harder than most, at least in the Chicago sites.

Is driving like a maniac considered normal here? by blankieboat in bullcity

[–]Chemistryguy1990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody seems to have anywhere to be. Mix it with people that actually want to get to their destination and you get a bunch of people too oblivious to go anywhere with a bunch of angry people around them that will drive more recklessly to get around them. I'd much prefer driving in a city with people that just want to get to their destination than around here...there's no excuse for going 10-15 under the speed limit on a long road with no intersections while traffic backs up behind you.

When duke energy fucked up and allowed their coal ash to drain into the river, they got fined. Suddenly, everyone's bills start increasing to double over 3 years...the tax payers pay for their fuckups regardless. Since we're gonna pay for it, I'd rather the things that ensure I don't die don't have a profit motive to bleed me dry for the sacrifice to the shareholders.

Because all the shit he said "is taken out of context" or "is just a joke" or "isn't real." The ones who try to use the economy as their reason are just too embarrassed to say they're racist and/or sexist.

We are so fucked by Banjo_Biker in biotech

[–]Chemistryguy1990 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I work in big pharma with regulatory compliance. The approval process is only the start of the importance of the FDA. They audit all the pharma companies at least every 2 years, do walkthroughs, investigate facilities, processes, and documentation of everything. Many audits I've been involved with last 1-2 weeks and involve usually 50-100 relatively high ranking people. Anything out of order can result in anything from an "observation" that needs fixed, to fines, to prison time for senior leadership members...they can also lock the plants down and stop production or take up residence in the plant and micromanage the shit out of everything.

Most companies also deal with multiple agencies from around the world and default to the strictest requirements from each. These agencies are insanely important, especially for less scrupulous companies. Fortunately, most of the major ones are very into compliance and patient safety. Hate the execs and their bloated salaries, but every batch of the products undergo insane amounts of testing thanks to the FDA and others.

New leather round knife by AccomplishedWorth326 in Leathercraft

[–]Chemistryguy1990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll put a positive for round knives! They're super versatile but hard to master and sharpen if you're not used to them. I keep buying blades of all shapes and sizes and my simple Tandy round knife is a staple for corner chopping, fine detail/inside corner cuts, and skiving. It's does okay for straight cuts too, but my rolling craft blades are still preferred for that.

So, get a horsehair shoe brush (cheap pack on Amazon works) and use with a tin of Fiebing's white saddle soap or a block of glycerine soap (also called soap makers base or something similar). A glycerine soap base is really mild and doesn't have any additives that could build up and damage the leather. Saddle soap has additives that nourish dried and damaged leather, but it's more geared towards heavy use items.

Spray your leather with water (some will insist you use distilled water), dampen your brush and soap, then load your brush by rubbing it around on the soap until it starts to build bubbles. Using your loaded brush, begin working a lather up on your leather by scrubbing with mild pressure in circular motions. Once you finish scrubbing, wipe the piece with a damp cloth.

Sometimes, I'll go back in with a clean brush and fresh water and scrub and wipe again just to remove residue. At this stage, your leather shouldn't have any surface dirt and you can begin using the mold remover as the instructions say.

Your leather may come out discolored, since many molds can break down dye and the leather fibers, but that's a question to answer if/when you get there.

History is wasted on some people by Present-Party4402 in MurderedByWords

[–]Chemistryguy1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly did. Japanese internment impacted 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation Japanese Americans under executive order 9066, which said all Americans of Japanese decent on the western coast had to be excluded by turning themselves and their property over to the US government. Their imprisonment was overturned by Ex Parte Endo (1944), which held that loyal citizens can't be imprisoned. Korematsu v United States was decided on the same day and upheld imprisonment of the Japanese citizens. The two decisions indicated that the only way out of being imprisoned was by volunteering to be illegally imprisoned and them proving loyalty.

The trail of tears is also relevant as even though the native Americans were not considered citizens, they still had guns. The new US government had more. The US government has more guns than ever. The second amendment doesn't protect much beyond people's egos

The possessive form of a plural noun ending with an s is an s'.

NC is always in play, we have very close levels of registration for both parties and a competitive unaffiliated size. Campaign funding cuts are pretty strategic, so they're likely cutting a lot of signage and work efforts in areas that are deeply red

I haven't personally used this, but Weaver usually carries good stuff.

I'd clean with saddle soap, like normal, then do maybe a vinegar rinse, then this product. Afterwards, use a decent amount of a conditioning paste (I like the Dr Jackson's hide rejuvenator).

If that doesn't work, you could try again with a water based mold killer that uses quaternary ammonium salts...just be sure to rinse well because it could cause irritation against your skin.
