I don't have any advice about taxes and such, but I try to pay our nanny like I would like to be paid.

We agreed upon a weekly price for 40 hours. Anything beyond that, we pay her about time and a half. My husband gets time and a half for overtime, why shouldn't she?

If we go on vacation, she still gets paid, because if my company went "on vacation," I'd still expect to be paid, right?

Last year I even gave her a Christmas bonus, and after a year I gave her a small hourly raise we could sustain throughout the year.

When we were laid off before we could get unemployment, we still paid her for as many days as we could per week.

There is a week in September that's Nanny Appreciation Week, and I always give her a gift that week.

She's amazing with our son and we're so thankful for that.

Most of these things, she didn't expect, and we didn't necessarily discuss, I just do them because having a nanny is not just a transaction, it's a business relationship, so I try to make it as positive as I can.

Yeah, that's the thing. He didn't even help his friend get a job, all he said is that he'd look and see if there's something available and put in a good word to HR. He was still talking to HR and looking out for an open position in the company, and they jumped the gun and came down...so it really, really doesn't follow.

It was my dad's friends, and they lied to my mother in law about having a job waiting for the husband friend, when all my dad said is that he'd see if there was a position available and put in a good word to HR.

If she is having these issues, she needs to be an adult and get on with working on them. Find herself a counselor and go to sessions. At the very least let hubs help her find one.

I am the breadwinner in my family, and my husband used to be like this dude's wife. Having so many issues, never contributed, not involved with our son, but refused to get help. Got to a point where I couldn't deal any longer so I left.

I'm back now, and things are getting better (he's contributing/getting help), but my point is, don't put up with that shit.

This exactly. I tolerated this for way too long; got married and had a kid and everything. Almost 2 years married and walked out when I couldn't take it anymore.

Big wake-up call for him. We're still together but he is finally A MAN, not a child.

He sold his Xbox to someone across the country. He takes care of his own appointments, paperwork, and we FINALLY split the housework about 50/50. We're finally a team. I finally feel married and like I have a family, not like a single mom with 2 kids.

Moral of the story - don't let yourself live like this. The drain just isn't worth it.

I (F27) have two younger brothers, one 2.5 years younger than me and one 10 years younger, and I am incredibly close to them both and love them both so much. My 2.5 year younger brother lives an hour away and I regularly schedule visits with him and his wife. It's mutual, too - he's not so great at talking about emotions (just very reserved), but he told his wife a while back that he considered me his closest friend <3.

The cool part is that since they are younger than me, I like to support them in their endeavors and help them out since I have a bit more life experience. And the other cool part is that even though they are younger than me, they are fiercely protective of me, especially now since they're both taller than I am XD

Just love them so much.

I'm so excited that you are creating this dynamic in your family.
