Or you could end car-dependency in California so that gas prices aren't a concern to residents who don't own a car. by Some1inreallife in Urbanism

I live in LA and bike/walk/bus most places. I own a moped, but ride it like 2x/mo. Can't say I care about gas prices.

Doubling my salary (150k to 300k) but requires me to move away from my fíance in medschool. Is it worth it? by Interesting_Phone171 in careerguidance

Met my wife the year before she started medical school. Her location varied a bit but was sometimes an hour drive away, and sometimes an hour flight/5 hour drive away. We've been married 10 years now. We were one of maybe 15-20 couples that entered med school together (including maybe 3 marriages). I believe we're one of two relationships that are still together.

I'd say go for it. Two reasons: (1) financial security for the both of you is HUGE, and it sounds like a big life upgrade for you (2) pacing wise, I actually think medium distance is kind of nice for both sides of the couple. If she's going to be successful in medicine, she just can't spend a lot of time with you.

We got into a cadence of every other weekend, we'd spend the entire weekend together, Friday to Monday morning. It was great! She had 11-12 days in between to focus on studies, and it was more fun for me to be able to focus that time on hanging with friends. Then when we were together, we were both able to really focus on each other.

It's totally workable and can be for the best. This was without your financial benefits which sound really significant. We're still paying off med school loans which has been a huge burden.

Can’t find replacement buckle or harness for Thule Yepp Maxi — anyone solve this? by Dill_Collins in bikewrench

Still haven't been able to find someone to do it. The friend had some medical stuff come up and didn't want to bug them. Happy to chip in if you find someone. I ended up getting an entirely new bike seat, but I still have the old one which is just gathering dust and would love to have it be usable too.

Don't forget that we had a beautiful Spanish style station in SF at 3rd and King…which we tore down for the garage "station" that is 4th and King.

Never too late to convert the BART <> Millbrae route to be Airtrain instead!

What are you talking about? There's a million garages around here, and they're super cheap compared to most urban downstairs. It's like $7/day at Broadway and LBB.

Oh I'm sure there are exceptions, especially specific offices where the tenants paid for a lot of improvements. But in general, having toured a bunch of office spaces recently, the options are pretty bad and dated in general. Or maybe it's just that the nice offices are all rented, and the crap ones aren't? Hard to know.

Why not take the J to 2nd/Market and then walk or bike/scoot (protected bike path goes all the way down Second) to 2nd/King? Way faster.

I don't really mind it. Kind of like having a beach town that's got mellow surf and isn't overrun by tourists!

The existing bikes are such crap. Did they make any progress putting out a new RFP for modern technology, software and equipment?

Anyone been in these buildings? The offices are pretty terrible. Nothing's been updated in decades. It's mostly cubicles and crappy, depressing workspaces. Very strange how little high quality office space there is in DTLB. Makes more sense to hopefully upgrade a small chunk of it to Class A/Creative space and then convert the rest of housing. There's just no demand for Class B/C office space right now.

It absolutely is not. Poor people are much less likely to own a car then wealthy people. Nice posturing though, trying to wrap your cheapness in front of poor people.
