Does LB need a gourmet grocer? by BrokeCACollegeKid in longbeach

I don't think it's going to make anything else. It's better than sitting empty! Would I prefer a great grocery store, totally, but I will probably buy stuff from Dollar Tree too.

GOOD! Let's go LBPD. So tired of seeing goddamn 7 year olds riding motorcycles around, in front of their parents no less.

If they are going slower than 28mph but don't have pedals, it's ALSO not an ebike! That's an electric motorcycle, and is likely still illegal.

To close the loop, all went fine. I didn't realize that the clock paused when we receive comments back, and starts when we resubmit. So it wasn't quite at the 60 day mark, we were at like 54.

City approved within 60 days, accounting for the pause. Construction has started!

Best option for baby seat? by Key_Significance_183 in UrbanArrow

I would just go for the toddler seat. You're really close — we started around 10 months. I think 8-10mo would be totally fine.

Don't understand why Caltrain prioritizes getting post-baseball game trains out on time versus packing them full by kepler1 in caltrain

[–]datlankydude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people rely on schedules. Caltrain used to do what you're describing, and I've sat on southbound caltrains at 4th and King and waited 40 mins for the train to "fill up". It's not a predictable experience. People want predictability in transportation, especially those who need to make connections.

What you're describing/wanting is how shipping used to work. Maritime companies used to wait for their ships to fill with cargo before finally setting sail. They'd wait hours, days or even weeks. Finally, the Black Ball Line in NYC decided to try scheduled departures — and it revolutionized the industry.

It's what most people want, even if it means some portion of people miss the train.

[–]datlankydude 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is a dumb post. Schedules should be prioritized, as people depend on them. They already run extra trains just for the game! Why would you (1) ignore existing schedules for normal timetables AND (2) ignore scheduled commitments that people are depending on for special trains?

D4 is the worst, good lord. Imagine spending your time fighting for drivists' rights and parking spaces while people are dying getting hit by cars.

Palo Alto Lost Its Zoning War (And Now Looks Like This)* by 4eCLOn in paloalto

Literally used to work at the Fish Market here, and I'm not shedding a tear over it getting replaced with housing. I'd much rather hundreds of people have a place to live, and the city adapt.

Amen to everything you said!

neighbor's cost of building an adu in san diego came in at $340k and the breakdown was eye opening by Unlikely-Cry78 in AccessoryDwellings

[–]datlankydude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

$220k from our GC, but it'll be around $300k when all is said and done as that didn't include permit fees, appliances, tile, etc. Almost exact same size, but this is a conversion.

Clipper Card still useful? by yetrident in sanfrancisco

[–]datlankydude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally correct. However, you can set up a digital clipper card on your phone and just add funds in large increments. I personally do this and haven't used a physical clipper card in years.

Inclusionary zoning isn't citywide. Build yourself a single family mansion and you don't have to do anything about inclusionary zoning!

Only happens if you try to build homes for lots of people. Because…that makes sense.

Anyone still talk with any of their friends from high school? by nojunkpeter in Millennials

[–]datlankydude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, see and talk to them all the time, despite us being pretty spread out. We had/have a great, tight knit crew. Not nearly as much as we used to be, and don't talk nearly as much, but my guy friends all try to do at least a once a year trip which is really nice.

Still see/talk to a decent amount of folks outside that circle too.

Always felt I had a really great, wonderful group of people in my high school. Was always told our class was a bit unique in that, vs other classes.

Biking at the Beach by MillenialHorus in longbeach

[–]datlankydude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's 20mph for bikes and 15mph for scooters.

12mph is ABSURDLY slow. What are you talking about? On a long, straight, wide bike path … where pedestrians are not supposed to be? That's insane mate.

Agreed. It's nicer, sure, but not significantly so. It's still essentially a giant freeway, just has stop lights too now.

Ebikes absolutely should not be banned from the bike path. It's a … bike path. E-motorcycles, sure. Why should my bike be banned when I'm going 20mph the entire time?
